Steve's Friday Feature: Celebrating our caring community and the true Pioneer Spirit.

The campus community comes to life for each Open House as Pioneers are proud to welcome visitors.

Tour groups covered all sections of the Alfred State and Wellsville campuses.

Where do admissions, faculty, staff, current students, future students, and parents come together for a day of Pioneer Pride? Open House of course!

I was on campus this past weekend welcoming our guests to campus, although Kandi Geibel and her team already did a great job at that through all their outreach and for setting up a picture-perfect day. And speaking of pictures, here are a few of the event. They capture the many students and families circulating about. It truly was an Open House!

Our guests had the opportunity to see our spaces, including classes, labs, dorm rooms, student centers, and more. I didn't get a chance to visit our Wellsville campus on this day, but I heard that our many guests were also treated to the same spectacular visuals of our spaces and applied tech equipment where students learn their trade and prepare for a successful career.

My favorite part of what visitors had the opportunity to see was our faculty and staff. Whether it was our nursing faculty like Jody Blankenship who really engages the students and parents in the meaningful education they provide, or our science faculty like Holly Young who speaks with such passion about the work they do, or our staff in the Student Success Center like Tracy Flett who can talk about all the ways we support our students throughout their academic journey.

And yes, we also have people like Valerie Daciw from Career Development who can boast the great outcomes that our students have upon graduation and how we prepare them for that, because it is never too early to be thinking about that!

It was impossible to be everywhere at once, so I am certain I missed the many more folks who have given part of their weekend to make for a special day for the students and their families considering making Alfred State part of their future. You are the ones they want to hear and learn from, and you make all the difference. I hope to see you at the next Open House on Sunday, November 5.
