The Alfred State women's basketball team held Penn College to just 22 points in the 2nd half and rallied for a 66-62 victory.  The Lady Pioneers are now 6-2 on the year while the Lady Wildcats fall to 2-3.

The Alfred State women's basketball team held Penn College to just 22 points in the 2nd half and rallied for a 66-62 victory.  The Lady Pioneers are now 6-2 on the year while the Lady Wildcats fall to 2-3.

Penn College shot the lights out of the ball in the first half and led by as many 11 before the Pioneers went on a run and cut it to 40-34 at half.  The Wildcats were 5 for 7 from three in the first stanza.  Alfred came out of halftime and 8-0 run to grab the lead.  The visitors held a five point lead 49-44 before 14-0 run to take control of the game for good.

Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) led the blue & gold with 29 points, 16 rebounds, six blocks, and five steals.  Jennifer Fedrick (Buffalo/Bennett) added 15 points and 10 boards while Helena Covington (Elmira Free) was 5 for 7 from the field and finished with 11 points and seven boards. 

Danielle Mowery led PC with 14 points and 11 assists while Jenna Matzinger had 13.  Jamie Steer had 11 points and nine boards while her sister Kierstin had 10 points and seven boards.

Alfred grabbed 30 offensive rebounds in the game and held a 62 to 54 rebounding edge in the game.  Alfred forced 30 turnovers in the contest.

The Lady Pioneers return to action on Thursday when they host Finger Lakes CC at 5:30 p.m. at the Orvis Activities Center.
