Turnovers Doom Pioneers

Alfred State couldn't overcome seven turnovers (four fumbles & three interceptions) as they fell 31-21 to Globe Institute of Technology in Brooklyn.  ASC is now 2-2 on the year while Globe is 5-1.

Globe got the scoring going in the 1st quarter taking advantage of the Pioneers second fumble.  Alfred State answered back with seven minutes left in the 2nd quarter when Tavon Moore (Syracuse/Bishop Grimes) caught a 24-yard scoring pass from Greg Hampton (Uniondale).

Pierce Scores Winner in Double OT

Holli Pierce (Livonia) scored 4:02 into the 2nd overtime to lift Alfred State to a 1-0 victory over Erie CC on Thursday evening.  The win improves the #8 Lady Pioneers to 8-2 on the season and 7-2 in Region III Division III play.

Pierce's goal, her third of the season, came after a long throw in by Lacee Pearl (Olean) that flew over the defense.  Pierce was one-on-one with the goalie and headed the ball past the keeper.

Men's Soccer Suffers Tough Loss

Alfred State and Erie CC battled back and forth for 90 minutes with the decisive plays of the contest coming within two minutes of each other.  ECC netted the lone goal of the contest five minutes into the 2nd half and then denied a penalty kick opportunity less than two minutes later.

Pablo Ordonez found the back of the net early in the second half on a shot that slipped just under the cross bar.

Lady Spikers Fall in Four

The Alfred State College volleyball team won the opening game 25-22 versus Jamestown CC but could not keep the momentum and fell in the next three games, 18-25, 18-25, 20-25.

Meghan Kraus (Trumansburg) led the way with 12 kills and seven digs while Kay Pfleghardt (Tioga) finished with 18 digs, seven kills, and two blocks.  Mishaya Tuttle (Campbell Savona) had 12 digs, and nine kills, Ashley Hulse (Hammondsport) finished with six blocks and five kills, and Mandy Bush (Altoona, PA) had 27 assists, 14 digs, and three aces.

Lady Pioneers Crack Top Ten

The Alfred State College women's soccer team has cracked into the top ten of the lastest NJCAA Division III poll. The Lady Pioneers debut in the poll with the #8 ranking.

The Pioneers entered the week with a 7-1 mark and a 6-1 record in Region III Division III play.  They are joined in the poll by four other Region III schools.  Finger Lakes CC is #3, ASC is #8, Broome CC is #9, and Onondaga CC is #10.  Ocean County College is #1 followed by Holyoke CC.

Wood Named National Player of the Week

Alfred State College freshmen defensive back John Wood (Rochester/East) has been named the NJCAA special teams player of the week.  Wood was instrumental in the Pioneers 49-27 victory over Stevens Tech on Saturday.

Cross Country Remains #1, Men still 6th

The Alfred State College women's cross country team remains #1 in the lastest NJCAA Division III poll.  The Lady Pioneers shared the honor last week but hold it by themselves this week.  ASC's men are ranked #6 for the second straight week.

The Lady Pioneers earned 290 points in this week's poll to claim the top spot. They are followed by SUNY Delhi (260), Mohawk Valley CC (250), and Hudson Valley CC (190).

Win Streak Snapped

The six-game winning streak of the Alfred State College women's soccer team was snapped by Jamestown Olean.  The Jaguars defeated ASC 1-0.

The six-game winning streak of the Alfred State College women's soccer team was snapped by Jamestown Olean.  The Jaguars defeated ASC 1-0.

JCC-Olean scored the lone goal of the contest with 26:52 remaining in the 2nd half.  ASC held to a 9 to 7 shot on goal advantage.  Simone Delaney (Canisteo Greenwood) made six saves for the Pioneers.

ASC is now 7-2 on the season and 6-2 in Region III Division III play.

Alfred State returns to action on Thursday when they return to Pioneer Stadium for a 6 p.m. contest with Erie CC.

Fall Baseball Season Comes to an End for ASC

The Alfred State College fall baseball season came to an end on Tuesday following a 12-3 loss at Erie CC in the 1st round of the WNYAC Tournament.  ASC jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning but could never recover after ECC answered with six runs in the bottom of the 1st.

Garrett Hoag (Dansville) and Keegan Pierce (Hornell) were each 2-3 for with a RBI for the Pioneers.

ASC wraps up the fall season with a 2-11 mark.  They will return to action in March when they take their annual trip to Florida for spring training.

Five New Members Inducted into Athletic Hall of Fame

2011 Hall of Fame ClassDuring Homecoming 2011, five Alfred State College athletic alumni were inducted into the athletic department hall of fame.  Swimmer John Meade, track & field athlete Damian Rodriguez, lacrosse player Matthew Covert, baseball player Joe Greany, and swimmer Ashley Vogl will join the 56 inducted athletes.
