Balanced Attack Leads Niagara Past Pioneers

Four Thunderwolves scored in double-figures as Niagara CCC defeated Alfred State 88-55 in a WNYAC match-up.  NCCC improves to 11-5 overall and 2-0 while Alfred falls to 6-8 and 0-2.

Isaiah Johnson and Jon Marsh each had 18 points to lead NCCC.  Jordan Street added 16 off the bench and Ethan Baker had 14.  Nine Thunderwolves scored in the contest and NCCC held a 56 to 30 rebounding advantage.

Lady Pioneers Down NCCC

The Alfred State women's basketball team erased a 1st half deficit and defeated Niagara CCC 60-49 to register their 10th victory of the season.  The Lady Pioneers are 10-4 on the year and 2-0 in Region III Division II play.

The blue & gold trailed 29-23 at half but rallied the tie the game in the first six minutes of the 2nd half.  After trading the lead a few times the Lady Pioneers 17 to 6 run in the final eight minutes to take control of the game.

Pioneers Win in Overtime

The Alfred State men's basketball team shook off a slow start and defeated Northampton (PA) CC 70-64 in overtime in the consolation game of the Herkimer CCC Tournament on Sunday.  Alfred is now 6-7 on the year.

The Pioneers trailed 27-16 at halftime and trailed until the tied the game up at 45-45.  The Pioneer trailed 56-54 in the final minute before Cristian Santana (Harlem Village Academy) made a lay-up after getting a pass from Adam Fezza (Southampton).  The Spartans had a chance to win it in regulation but their three-point attempt did not fall.

The Alfred State men's basketball team hung tough with #4 Herkimer CCC but fell 66-55 in the first round of the HCCC Tournament. The Pioneers are now 5-7 on the year and will take on Northampton CC in the consolation game on Sunday at Noon.

The blue & gold trailed 35-24 at half but closed it to 45-42 with just over nine minutes left and trailed 58-53 in the final minutes before Herkimer put the game out of reach.

Tommy Hutson (Brooklyn/Susan McKinney) was the lone Pioneer in double figures finishing with 19 points.

Wrestlers Battle Tough in 2013 Opener

The Alfred State wrestling teams battled tough but fell twice as they opened up 2013 at the Alfred State Duals. They opened the day with a 27-24 loss to Penn College of Technology and then fell 42-16 to Bergen (NJ) CC.

2nd Half Run Lifts Saints over Pioneers

Mercyhurst North East used a 24 to 5 run in the 2nd half to break open a tight contest en route to a 81-68 victory over Alfred State in the WNYAC opener for both teams.  MNE is now 7-7 (1-0 WNYAC) on the year while Alfred is 5-6 (0-1 WNYAC).

The Saints held a 33-26 lead at half but the Pioneers scored the first seven points of the half to tie it. A few moments later, MNE led 38-37 before they went on the game-deciding run.

Lady Pioneers win WNYAC Opener

The Alfred State women's basketball team opened up 2013 and WNYAC play with a 58-47 victory over Mercyhurst North East on Thursday.  The Lady Pioneers improve to 9-4 (1-0 WNYAC) while the Lady Saints are now 8-4 (0-1 WNYAC).

Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) led all scorers with 23 points.  She also added 15 rebounds and blocked seven shots.  Sally Santiago (Bronx/Our Lady of Good Counsel) had a career high 14 points while Briana Meehan (Whitesville) and Eleasha Wiggins (Brooklyn/Bedford Academy) each chipped in nine. 

Four Lady Pioneer Soccer Players Honored by the NSCAA

Four members of the Alfred State women's soccer team have been honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in their end of the year awards. Kali Muhleisen (Alfred Almond), was named 1st team All-American while Krista DeCarlo (Bayshore/West Islip), and Maura Tuffey (Albany/Holy Names) were named 2nd team. The trio along with Hannah Holmok (Alfred Almond) were also named All-Northeast Region as well.

Baseball to Host Prospect Camp

Alfred State baseball coach Jason Cronin and the rest of the coaching staff will host a Prospect Camp on Sunday, Jan. 27th at the Orvis Activities Center. The camp will allow high school players to showcase their skills in front of the Pioneer coaching staff.  Each participant will receive an evaluation of their skills from the coaching staff.

Alfred State baseball coach Jason Cronin and the rest of the coaching staff will host a Prospect Camp on Sunday, Jan. 27th at the Orvis Activities Center. There will be two sessions during the day.  In the first between 9 a.m. and Noon infielders and outfielders will be evaluated while in the second between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. pitchers and catcher will be looked at.


Pioneers Finish 3rd at JCC Invitational

The Alfred State swimming team wrapped up the 2012 portion of their season with a 3rd place showing at the Jamestown CC Invitational. Only the men's team competed and scored 155 points on the day.

Mark Pendleton (Beacon) was 2nd in the 100 free (57.39) and 3rd in the 100 back (1:05.31) while Tyler Easterbook (Bath) was 2nd in the 500 free (5:48.04) and was 3rd in the 200 free (2:06.84) to lead the team.
