The Alfred State men's basketball team shook off a slow start and defeated Northampton (PA) CC 70-64 in overtime in the consolation game of the Herkimer CCC Tournament on Sunday.  Alfred is now 6-7 on the year.

The Alfred State men's basketball team shook off a slow start and defeated Northampton (PA) CC 70-64 in overtime in the consolation game of the Herkimer CCC Tournament on Sunday.  Alfred is now 6-7 on the year.

The Pioneers trailed 27-16 at halftime and trailed until the tied the game up at 45-45.  The Pioneer trailed 56-54 in the final minute before Cristian Santana (Harlem Village Academy) made a lay-up after getting a pass from Adam Fezza (Southampton).  The Spartans had a chance to win it in regulation but their three-point attempt did not fall.

Marquis Chatman (Allen, TX) started off the extra session with two 3-pointers to give the Pioneers a quick lead.  Alfred hit all six of their foul shots in OT to hang on to the lead and snap a four-game slide.

Tommy Hutson (Brooklyn/Susan McKinney) led the Pioneers for the second straight day with 17 points.  Chatman added 13, eight coming in overtime.  Donnie Stevenson (Red Creek) added 13 and Jamar White (Laurel, MD) chipped in 11 second half points.

The blue and gold start a busy WNYAC week on Tuesday with a road trip to Niagara CCC.  Opening tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.  Alfred host Erie CC on Thursday and travel to Monroe CC on Saturday.
