Goodrich Featured Speaker at National Conference

Deborah J. GoodrichAlfred State College’s Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management Deborah J. Goodrich was recently a featured speaker at NACAC’s (National Association for College Admission Counseling) 67th national conference. An overview of her presentation was subsequently printed in the November 2011 issue of Enrollment Management Report (practical guidance in recruitment, admissions, retention and financial aid).

SUNY Financial Aid Day, Saturday, Feb. 11

The Office of Student Records and Financial Services will participate in the annual SUNY Financial Aid Day, Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, beginning at 9 a.m., in EJ Brown Hall, Room 414, on the Alfred campus. The financial aid staff will assist students and their guests in completing and submitting the 2012-13 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) electronically.

The Alfred State College Office of Student Records and Financial Services will participate in the annual SUNY Financial Aid Day, Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, beginning at 9 a.m., in EJ Brown Hall, Room 414, on the Alfred campus. The financial aid staff will assist students and their guests in completing and submitting the 2012-13 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) electronically. The FAFSA is required for all financial aid, including New York State assistance. The financial aid staff will also be available to answer any questions regarding the financial aid process.

WINS Club Annual Fund Raiser

Members of the WINS ClubThe WINS Club (Women in Non-traditional Studies--though membership is open to all students) recently conducted its annual fund raiser, raising $220 through can and bottle returns and coin banks, to buy presents for a local family sponsored by Steuben Rural Ministry of Canisteo.

Business Department of Alfred State College, and curriculum coordinator of its financial planning program, recently served on a panel of fellow financial advisers, all of whom gave their prognostications for 2012 to the Wall Street Journal.

Business Department of Alfred State College, and curriculum coordinator of its financial planning program, recently served on a panel of fellow financial advisers, all of whom gave their prognostications for 2012 to the Wall Street Journal.

In addition to Rhoades, the panelists included three other fee-only investment advisers. Written by Daisy Maxey, a special writer for Dow Jones Newswires, and John Leger, a news editor for The Wall Street Journal, the article discusses which financial sectors have the most promise and which have the most peril.

Students Compete in Gilda’s Club Event

Gingerbread House Contest second- and third-place winners in the student (college) division included Alfred State College culinary arts: baking, production and management students Sarah Herman, Alexander, and Brittney Bradley, Monticello, respectively.

Students enrolled in the culinary arts: baking, production and management curriculum at Alfred State College for the fifth consecutive year entered a variety of gingerbread houses in the 10th Annual Gingerbread…Gifts…Glitz…at Gilda’s Club Event held in Buffalo earlier this month.

“Best Beards and Braids” Fundraising Contest

The winners received a “Best Beards/Braids” tee-shirt, and a spot on an ORC trip of their choice.

Anderson and Swanson Present at Conference

Titled “Tying It All Together: An Integrative Model for Strategic Planning, Budget Allocation, and Institutional Effectiveness,” the presentation offered a best-practice model of collaborative strategic planning used at the college. Anderson and Swanson reviewed the “homegrown” creation and implementation of the college’s strategic plan which includes goals, strategies, actions, desired outcomes, key performance indicators, and actual results.

Parker and Race Named ASC Athletes of the Week

Sophomore basketball player Pat Parker (Queens/Hillcrest) and freshman wrestler Zach Race (Fulton/G Ray Bodley) have been named the ASC Athletes of the Week by the SID office.

Sophomore basketball player Pat Parker (Queens/Hillcrest) and freshman wrestler Zach Race (Fulton/G Ray Bodley) have been named the ASC Athletes of the Week by the SID office.

Parker netted a career high 31 points in the Pioneers lone contest of the week at #20 CC of Beaver County.  He was 11 for 25 from the field and 5 for 15 from three in the contest.  He also grabbed seven rebounds and was credited with four steals.  It was the 5th time this season Parker scored more than 20 points in a contest.
