Moore Inducted into Hall of Fame

Longtime cross country and track & field coach Gary Moore was inducted into the NJCAA Division III Cross Country and Track & Field Coaches Association Hall of Fame this past weekend. Moore was inducted in a ceremony during the 2012 Outdoor Track & Field Championships that were held at Pioneer Stadium.

Longtime cross country and track & field coach Gary Moore was inducted into the NJCAA Division III Cross Country and Track & Field Coaches Association Hall of Fame this past weekend.  Moore was inducted in a ceremony during the 2012 Outdoor Track & Field Championships that were held at Pioneer Stadium.

Moore has led Pioneer athletes to four National championships (2000 men's outdoor track, 2003 & 2011 women's cross country, and 2007 women's outdoor track & field) and to 47 Region III Championships (13 in men's cross country, 10 in men's indoor track & field, seven in both men's outdoor track & field and women's indoor track & field, and five in both women's cross country and women's outdoor track & field).

On top of coaching countless All-Americans and having hundreds of athletes move on to higher levels of collegiate competition, Moore has been an integral part of Alfred State's athletic department as a teacher and as the director of intramurals.  He has also served the college as swim coach in the late 70's into the early 80's.  Moore has also been an active leader in the coaches association holding numerous positions and most recently serving as the president of the cross country coaches association.

During his tenure the college has hosted seven National Championship events including three outdoor track & field championships in the last four years.

This year alone, Moore has been named the Region III Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year, the NJCAA DIII Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year, and the NJCAA DIII Women's Outdoor Coach of the Year.

Moore who has been the coach of the running programs at Alfred State for over 30 years was inducted along with athletes Ryan Asta of Harper College and Shernette Hyatt from Nassau CC.
