Alfred State baseball coach Jason Cronin is working on plans to bring baseball alumni back to campus during the 2012 homecoming weekend.  The current Pioneers will take on a team of alumni on October 13th at approximately 4 p.m.  The game will start at the conclusion of the homecoming football game which begins at 1 p.m.

The Alfred State athletic department has named Jason Cronin the new full-time baseball coach.  Cronin has nearly fifteen years of coaching experience including serving as the college's interim coach during the Spring 2012 season.

Prior to serving as Alfred State's interim coach this spring, Cronin most recently was the head baseball coach at Peru State College (NE). At Peru State, he led the team to 30 victories in 2009, coached the first player in PSC baseball history to get drafted, and led teams to the conference tournament in four of his five years at the helm.

The 2012 Alfred State baseball team closed out the season on Wednesday with a home doubleheader vs. Jamestown CC.  The Pioneers were held to eight hits and were swept, 10-0 and 11-0, by the Jayhawks.

In the opener, JCC scored multiple runs in four of the five innings.  Kiele Wilson (Bath Haverling) collected a double and finished 1 for 2 for Alfred State.

The Alfred State baseball team couldn't get much going as they fell 12-2 and 6-0 to Niagara CCC in a Region III Division III doubleheader on Tuesday.

In the opener, NCCC scored five in the 1st and never looked back.  The Pioneers scored their lone runs of the contest in the 3rd on a RBI single by Greg Koller (Chesterland, OH) and a RBI walk to Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cohocton).

In the nightcap, Thunderwolves pitcher Richard Kawalski tossed a perfect game.  He struck out two in retiring all 21 batters he faced.

The Alfred State baseball team collected 27 hits in a doubleheader with Finger Lakes CC but the Lakers offense was just as productive in a sweep of a Region III Division III doubleheader, 15-10 in nine innings and 16-3.

Finger Lakes CC rallied in the 5th inning of both games of a Region III Division III doubleheader to defeat Alfred State 4-2 & 10-4 on Saturday afternoon.  In the opener, Alfred led 2-1 heading into the 5th before the Lakers scored three to take the lead for good and in the nightcap the Pioneers led 4-2 before the Lakers scored three in the 5th en route to the victory.

Erie CC defeated Alfred State 12-4 in a Region III Division III baseball game played at Maple City Park on Thursday.  The second game of the doubleheader was called due to rain and poor field conditions prior to the game reaching an official game.

The Kats jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the 1st inning but the Pioneers got right back into the game in the bottom half of the inning when Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cohocton) connected on a three-run homer that escaped the park over the left field fence.  The homer was the first of the season for Wheaton.

Thursday's baseball game between Alfred State and Erie CC has been moved to Hornell High School and will start at Noon.  The field at Alfred is still snow covered following Monday's storm.

This weekend's baseball four-game series vs. Finger Lakes CC has flip-flopped home dates.  Saturday's DH will now be played at Finger Lakes CC with a 1 p.m. first pitch.  Sunday's DH will now be played at Alfred with a start of 1 p.m.  (If the field at Alfred is still unplayable on Sunday, the game will be played at Bolivar Richburg High School).

The snowstorm that hit last evening and is still in the area today has forced several changes to the baseball and softball schedules.  Make sure to continue to check www.alfredstate.edu/athletics for future updates.

Baseball: Tuesday's DH at Erie CC is cancelled with no make-up date announced and Wednesday make-up game vs. Jamestown CC has been moved to Wednesday, May 2 at Alfred and is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.

Softball: Tuesday's DH at Broome CC is cancelled and no make-up date has been announced.
