The Alfred State baseball team collected 27 hits in a doubleheader with Finger Lakes CC but the Lakers offense was just as productive in a sweep of a Region III Division III doubleheader, 15-10 in nine innings and 16-3.

In the opener, Alfred jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the 1st inning but FLCC bounced back in the 2nd with a five-run inning to take back the lead.  The teams traded runs and FLCC held a 9-8 lead in the 7th before Joe Dullea (Cold Spring/Haldane) singled home the tying run to send the game into extra innings.  The Pioneers stranded the bases loaded in the 7th.  In the top of the 9th, FLCC exploded for six runs to put the game out of reach.

Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cohocton) was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI including a solo homer in the 5th.  Brett Rapan (Bolivar Richburg) was 3 for 4 with a RBI while Eric Hicks (Hancock, PA) and Dullea were each 3-5 with 2 RBI on the day.

FLCC lead 4-3 after four innings of the nightcap but exploited a tired Pioneer pitching staff with 12 unaswered runs in the final three innings.  Wheaton was 2 for 4 with a solo homer in the 2nd inning.  The homer was Wheaton's third of the season and third in the last four days.  Rapan was 2 for 3 and Dullea was 2 for 4.

The Pioneers begin their final week of the season on Tuesday with a roadtrip to Niagara CCC.  First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
