Pioneers Fall at Orange

The Alfred State men's basketball team suffered an 80-66 setback to SUNY Orange as they played their first road game of 2012. The Pioneers are now 1-1 on the year.

The Alfred State men's basketball team suffered an 80-66 setback to SUNY Orange as they played their first road game of 2012.  The Pioneers are now 1-1 on the year.


Alfred trailed by four at half and hung close until the Colts were able to extend their lead to 24 points before Alfred closed the game by scoring the final 11 points.

The schedule for Saturday's (11/10) Alfred State basketball doubleheader at SUNY Orange has been flipped. The men's game will now tip off a 1 p.m. while the women will play at 3 p.m.

Seven Lady Pioneers Named All-WNYAC

Seven members of the Alfred State women's soccer team have been named to the All-WNYAC team. The Lady Pioneers finished the 2012 season with a 17-2 mark and jumped all the way to the #1 ranking in the NJCAA DIII Poll.

Kali Muhleisen (Alfred Almond), Hannah Holmok (Alfred Almond), Maura Tuffey (Albany/Holy Names), Kelsey Murray (Greece Olympia) and Krista DeCarlo (Bayshore/West Islip) were all named 1st team while Allison Vargeson (Addison) and Kelly Stieve (Brockport) were named 2nd team.



Wrestlers Win WNYAC Opener

The Alfred State wrestling team defeated Jamestown CC 25-20 in their season opening WNYAC match.

The Pioneers jumped out to a quick 18-0 lead with forfeit victories at 184 (Josh Lord - Owego Free), 197 (Travis Harvey - Alfred Almond), and heavyweight (Daniel Ognibene - Alexander).

Men Split at Genesee

The Alfred State men's swimming team split a WNYAC double-dual on Wednesday evening. The Pioneers fell 48-46 to Genesee CC but defeated Mercyhurst North East 58-17. The women's team fell 44-16 to Genesee and 45-14 to Mercyhurst North East.

Troy Wagner (Niagara Wheatfield), Dylan Tiefenthaler (Owego Free), Josh McDowell (Wayland Cohocton) and Tyler Easterbrook (Bath Haverling) won the 200 medley relay (1:52.46) while Wagner, Jake Drew (Victor) Easterbrook, and Kalem Chambliss (Alfred Almond) won the 400 free relay.

Five Pioneers Run to All-Region Honors

Five members of the Alfred State cross country team ran to All-Region honors during the Region III Championships. Jedadiah Platt (Barker) earned 1st team honors while Jordan Rusek (Williamsville East), Kim Lupo (Auburn), Claire Holleran (Penfield), and Katy Monahan (Warsaw) all raced to 2nd team honors.

Five members of the Alfred State cross country team ran to All-Region honors during the Region III Championships.  Jedadiah Platt (Barker) earned 1st team honors while Jordan Rusek (Williamsville East), Kim Lupo (Auburn), Claire Holleran (Penfield), and Katy Monahan (Warsaw) all raced to 2nd team honors.


Platt finished 5th at the Regionals.  He crossed the finish line of the 8k course in 30:57.4. 


Rusek ran a 31:29.9 to earn 10th place at Regionals and a spot on the All-Region 2nd team.

Fanning and Frazier Honored by Region and Alfred State

Karley Fanning (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) and Collin Frazier (Woodbridge, VA) have been named the Region III athletes of the week and the Alfred State athletes of the week.

Karley Fanning (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) and Collin Frazier (Woodbridge, VA) have been named the Region III athletes of the week and the Alfred State athletes of the week.


Fanning led the Lady Pioneers to a 3-0 record and the title at the SUNY Delhi Tournament.  She averaged 17.7 points per game and 6.3 rebounds.  She had 10 points and 13 rebounds vs. Broome CC, 17 points and seven rebounds vs. Sullivan County, and 23 points and seven rebounds vs. Delhi.  For her solid effort in the Delhi Tournament, Fanning was named the MVP.


Lady Pioneers Win Delhi Title

Destiny Brito (Manhattan/Park West) hit a three-pointer with under two minutes left that broke a tie and helped lead the Alfred State women's basketball team to a 64-59 victory over host SUNY Delhi in the championship game of the Delhi Tournament. The Pioneers improve to 3-0 on the year.

Karley Fanning (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) was named the tournament MVP after leading the Pioneers with 23 points.  Fanning had 17 points in the Lady Pioneers opening round victory over Sullivan County CC on Saturday.
