ASC Receives Gift of $20,000 From Donald Holzer, ’56

Dr. Terry Tucker and Donald Holzer, ’56“Don’s gift will allow us to develop a great land laboratory,” says ASC Dean of Arts and Sciences Dr. Terry Tucker. Holzer agrees: “I’m very enthused – I can see the agriculture program being reborn through Dean Tucker’s enthusiasm and vision. The sun is beginning to shine again on agriculture at Alfred State.”

ASC to Pay Tribute to Veterans and Current Members of United States Armed Forces

Ergo, the student literary magazine, will be available Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. in the Allegany Room of the Central Dining Hall on the Alfred campus. The event, sponsored by the College’s Department of English and Humanities, is open to the public free of charge.

Alfred State College will pay tribute to veterans and current members of the United States armed forces on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, (Veterans’ Day), with the release of a special edition of Ergo, the student literary magazine, comprised of pieces written by current and former students who served or are serving in the armed forces and those who love them. The magazine will be available Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. in the Allegany Room of the Central Dining Hall on the Alfred campus.

ACES Video Wins Outstanding Multimedia/Emerging Technology Award

Auxiliary Campus Enterprises and Services (ACES—the campus dining, vending, and transportation provider) was delighted to learn that the video it prepared for orientation has won the 2010 Outstanding Multimedia/Emerging Technology award from the National Orientation Director’s Association (NODA).

When wide-eyed incoming freshmen arrive on the Alfred State College to attend campus orientation sessions in the summer, they are treated to high-energy, interactive educational sessions that help them understand and prepare for college life. This year, they were also treated to an award-winning orientation video to help smooth out the transition from high school to college.

Come spend an average day with the “Peanuts” gang, as the ASC drama club presents “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown!” in the Orvis Auditorium on the Alfred campus, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 12 and 13, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 14 at 3 p.m. Cost of admission to the play, which is appropriate for all ages, is $2 for ASC students and $5 for community members.

Coch Appointed to College Council

Carla Coch, Alfred Station, has been appointed by the NYS Governor’s Office to the Alfred State College Council.

Carla Coch, Alfred Station, has been appointed by the NYS Governor’s Office to the Alfred State College Council.

Council members serve without salary as an advisory group to the president of the College. Authority of the Council is in such areas as regulations governing student conduct, regulations concerning care and management of campus facilities, review of academic programs, approval of candidates for college degrees, and selection of the College president.
