Carla Coch, Alfred Station, has been appointed by the NYS Governor’s Office to the Alfred State College Council.

Council members serve without salary as an advisory group to the president of the College. Authority of the Council is in such areas as regulations governing student conduct, regulations concerning care and management of campus facilities, review of academic programs, approval of candidates for college degrees, and selection of the College president.

Coch, a retired Alfred University English professor, is currently an independent researcher in Chinese porcelain, focusing on 20th and 21st century porcelain artists in Jingdezhen, PRC, and celadon masters in Longquan, PRC.

Coch, holds a master of arts degree from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, where she also completed course work for her PhD (ABD); she holds a BA from Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, a Cambridge Certificate in Teaching ESL, and a certificate from Beijing Language and Culture University. She is an honorary citizen of Jingdezhen, China.

Coch published an exhibition catalog “Spirit and Vessel” in 2004 and curated a porcelain show in Jingdezhen; she has published two articles in ceramic journals on Longquan celadon.

The Morristown, NJ, native is married to Dr. William Coch; they are the parents of two adult children and grandparents to four.
