Baseball loses double-header to Monroe CC

Alfred State baseball lost both games of a doubleheader to Monroe CC on Saturay, 9-8 and 14-3.

Travis Noyd (Union-Endicott) pitched 6 strong innings and Brian Ervay (Elmira Southside) pitched the 7th as the Pioneers dropped a heartbreaker in game 1.  Alfred State entered the 6th inning with a two run lead, but Monroe rallied to score two in the 6th and five in the top of the 7th.  The Pioneers had a rally of their own in the bottom of the frame, but came up one run short.

Pioneers shut out Mechanics

The Alfred State College football team shut out Williamson College 33-0 in their first road test of the 2008 season.  With the victory the Blue & Gold improve to 2-1 (0-1 NFC) while the Mechanics fall to 1-1.

The Pioneers got solid efforts from all sides of the ball.  The offense accumulated 391 total yards (194 rushing and 197 receiving), the defense held Williamson to just 119 yards and forced one turnover, and the special teams set up scores with 81 return yards on the day.

Spoor scores twice to lead women's soccer to victory

Alfred State women's soccer defeated Jamestown CC 3-0 Friday evening to improve their record to 4-2 on the season.

Leandra Spoor (Laurens) netted two goals in the first half as the Lady Pioneers took a 2-0 lead into halftime.  Brittany Hannah (Eastridge)added an insurance goal in the second half to secure the win for Alfred State.  Audrey Rath (Medina) had an assist off a corner kick for Spoor's second goal.

Philicia Harris (Hutch Tech), Meghan Lowell (Keshequa) and Brandi Edwards (Andover) combined in the net for the shutout. 

Cross Country Sweeps FLCC Invitational

Both the men's and women's cross country teams at Alfred State College finished on top of the leaderboard at the Finger Lakes CC Bruce Bridgeman Invitational.  The men won by 13 points while the women won by five.

Alfred State improves to 6-2

The Alfred State College men's soccer team got back on track with a 6-0 victory over Corning CC on Thursday afternoon.  The Pioneers, ranked #5 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, improve to 6-2, 6-1 Region III Division III play.

Alex Curran (Williamson) got the Blue & Gold on the board 14 minutes into the contest after getting a pass from Matthew Owlett (Alfred Almond).  ASC increased the lead to 2-0 with 15:58 remaining in the half when a ball was knocked in by a Corning defender.

"Viva Italia" Spaghetti Dinner, Oct. 9

"Viva Italia" spaghetti dinner in the Culinary Arts Building on the Wellsville
campus, Thursday, Oct. 9, from 5-7 p.m.

will hold a "Viva Italia" spaghetti dinner in the Culinary Arts Building on the
Wellsville campus, Thursday, Oct. 9, from 5-7 p.m.  Cost of the dinner is
$11 per person (tax included); cost for children 10 and under is $5. 
Proceeds will benefit the Top Hat Scholarship Fund.

Garippa Named the 2008 Educator of the Year at NACAT Conference

Alfred State College (Wellsville Campus), in conjunction with Tenneco, is
sponsoring a "Drive and Ride" event on Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, from 8:30 a.m.
to 6:30 p.m. at the Wellsville Campus.  This event is open to the public
free of charge.

The Automotive Trades Department of
Alfred State College (Wellsville Campus), in conjunction with Tenneco, is

Men's Soccer Moves In to Top Five

The Alfred State College men's soccer team has moved into the top five of the newest NJCAA Division III poll.  The Pioneers are currently ranked #5 after starting the season with a 5-2 (5-1 in Region III Division III play) mark.

ASC was ranked #13 in last week's poll but registered victories over previously ranked #12 Finger Lakes CC, 3-2, and Jefferson CC 5-0.  Yesterday, the Pioneers battled NJCAA Division I Bryant & Stratton tough before falling 1-0 in overtime.
