Alfred State baseball lost both games of a doubleheader to Monroe CC on Saturay, 9-8 and 14-3.

Travis Noyd (Union-Endicott) pitched 6 strong innings and Brian Ervay (Elmira Southside) pitched the 7th as the Pioneers dropped a heartbreaker in game 1.  Alfred State entered the 6th inning with a two run lead, but Monroe rallied to score two in the 6th and five in the top of the 7th.  The Pioneers had a rally of their own in the bottom of the frame, but came up one run short.

Berto Vargas (Norman Thomas) led the offense for Alfred State with three hits including a double, an RBI and a run scored.  Ervay added a double and two runs scored while taking the loss on the mound.

Mark Cicotti (Horseheads) took the hill for game 2 lasting 4 1/3 innings before giving way to Casey McCabe (Binghamton).  Unfortunately for the Pioneers, theTribunes' hot hitting from the 7th inning of game 1 followed right on into game 2.  Cicotti (0-3) took the loss in game 2 for the Pioneers.

On offense in game 2 for the Pioneers, Vargas had an RBI single and a walk, Steve Smith (Hornell) had a single and a run scored, and Ervay hit an RBI double.

The Pioneers baseball team will go on the road for its next contest as they travel to play Jamestown CC on Saturday, Sept. 27.
