Cross Country Sweeps FLCC Invitational

Both the men's and women's cross country teams at Alfred State College finished on top of the leaderboard at the Finger Lakes CC Bruce Bridgeman Invitational.  The men won by 13 points while the women won by five.

Both the men's and women's cross country teams at Alfred State College finished on top of the leaderboard at the Finger Lakes CC Bruce Bridgeman Invitational.  The men won by 13 points while the women won by five.

The men's team, currently ranked #5 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, were led by John Sweeney (Barker) and Corey Smith (Wallkill) scored a 28 to finish ahead of Broome CC (41) and Finger Lakes CC (59).  Sweeney finished 2nd in 29:16 while Smith was 3rd in 29:49.  Adam McDevitt (Fabius Pomey) finished 5th (31:07), Logan Drummer (Pioneer) was 8th (31:27), and Peter Francia (Greece Olympia) was 10th (31:39). 

Ashley Fung (Greenwich) earned a 2nd place finish in the women's 5k race with a time of 21:38 as the Lady Pioneers, currently tied for 5th in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, scored a 34 ahead of FLCC's 39 points, and BCC's 47 points.  Kaleigh Ligoci (Cicero North Syracuse) finished 4th (22:46), Colleen Hurtubise (Williamsville) was 5th (22:52), Maria Wilson (Addison) was 8th (23:40).  Bridget McMahon (Avoca) rounded out the ASC's top five with a 15th place finish (25:37).

The Pioneers return to action next Saturday when they travel to Houghton College for the Highlander Invitational.  The first race is scheduled for 11 a.m.
