Grillo to Serve on SUNY University-wide Advisory Council on Distinguished Teaching Professorships

Men's Soccer Wins OT Thriller

The Alfred State College men's soccer team scored rallied for a 2-1 overtime victory over Broome CC on Thursday afternoon.  Justin Handley (Iroquois) netted the game winner with 1:46 remaining in the first overtime to run the Pioneers winning streak to three games.

After a scoreless first half, Jordan Oakley got the Hornets on the board with a pretty goal with 21:07 remaining.

The Pioneers knotted the game up with just 4:04 remaining in regulation when Eric Cline (WT Clarke) found Yuji Ueno (Tokyo, Japan) who put the ball past the Hornet keeper.

In a battle of two NJCAA Division III top ten teams, Broome CC scored the lone goal of the game with 1:28 remaining in the first overtime to earn the victory over Alfred State.  The Lady Pioneers, ranked #10, fall to 5-1-2 on the season while the Lady Hornets, the two-time defending NJCAA Division III champion and currently ranked #4, improve to 8-2 on the season.

Brenna Campbell scored the game winner for the Hornets who out shot ASC 17 to 12 in the game.  Mo Parks (Avoca) made 16 saves for the Lady Pioneers.

Holly R. Hogan Appointed to College Council

Holly R. Hogan, Hornell, has been appointed by the NYS Governor’s Office to the Alfred State College Council; she succeeds Terri Ross, whose term expired over the summer.

Council members serve without salary as an advisory group to the president of the College.  Authority of the Council is in such areas as regulations governing student conduct, regulations concerning care and management of campus facilities, review of academic programs, approval of candidates for college degrees, and selection of the College president.

Lady Spikers fall to Niagara

The Alfred State College volleyball team won the opening game versus Niagara CCC 25-23 but were slowed down by poor serving and passing and fell in the next three, 20-25, 17-25, 23-25.  The Lady Pioneers fall to 4-5 (3-4 Region III Division III) on the season.

Lady Pioneers Down Genesee

The Alfred State College women's soccer team scored three goals in the final 16 minutes to run their unbeaten streak to seven games.  With the 3-0 win over Genesee CC the Lady Pioneers are now 5-0-2 (4-0-1 Region III Division III) on the season.

Jessie Smith (Fredonia) opened the scoring after getting a pass from Jackie Matteson (Greece Arcadia).  Mckenzie Finnemore (Genesee Valley) scored the Lady Pioneers second goal and assisted on an insurance goal by Hailey Post (Jasper Troupsburg).

Big Plays Lead Pioneers to Victory

The Alfred State College football team used big plays to jump out to an early lead over Buffalo State JV en route to a 41-27 victory in their 2009 home opener.  The Pioneers improve to 2-1 on the season.

The Pioneers got on the board less than three minutes into the game when Jeff Glomb (Buffalo/St. Francis) connected with Pat White (Warren, OH) on a 78 yard passing play.  Ten minutes later, Glomb hit Rod Streater (Burlington, NJ) with a 20 yard scoring pass play.

Alfred State to Induct Five into Athletic Hall of Fame

The Alfred State College athletic hall of fame will induct five new members on September 25th during Homecoming weekend.  Basketball player Tom Hirsch, football player Chris Gray, baseball player Eric Baker, and cross country athletes Andy Coots and Gary Redding will become the newest members of the hall of fame.  The athletic department will also be honoring the 1984 cross country team.
