Lady Pioneers Down Genesee

The Alfred State women's basketball team raced out to a 26 point lead in the 1st half en route to a 78-53 victory over Genesee CC in a key Region III Division II battle.  The Lady Pioneers are now 11-8 overall and 2-3 in RIII DII contests.

The Alfred State women's basketball team raced out to a 26 point lead in the 1st half en route to a 78-53 victory over Genesee CC in a key Region III Division II battle.  The Lady Pioneers are now 11-8 overall and 2-3 in RIII DII contests.

The Lady Pioneers used a press defense that forced 37 Lady Cougar turnovers.  The game also had 55 fouls called which resulted in 73 foul shots.  Alfred State was 14 for 17 from the line in the 1st half and finished the day 20 for 31 while GCC was just 21 for 42 from the charity stripe.

Pye to Present “Examining The Shroud of Turin”

Dr. L. David Pye, dean and professor of glass science emeritus at the NYS College of Ceramics at Alfred University, will present “Examining The Shroud of Turin” at the Alfred State New Horizons Forum on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. in Room 215 of the Engineering Technologies Building. The public is invited free of charge; refreshments will be served prior to the event.

Dorsey and Parker Named Athletes of the Week

Briana Dorsey (Rochester/School of the Arts) and Pat Parker (Queens/Hillcrest) have been named the Alfred State athletes of the week by the SID office.

Briana Dorsey (Rochester/School of the Arts) and Pat Parker (Queens/Hillcrest) have been named the Alfred State athletes of the week by the SID office.

Dorsey had a strong showing at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational. She just missed qualifying for the NJCAA National Championships in the 500 m by .4 seconds.  She finished 4th overall with a time of 1:23.99.  Dorsey was also part of the 4x200 relay team that finished 4th overall in the competition (1:54.58).

Poor Shooting Hurts Pioneers

Jamestown CC was able to hold off all the comeback attempts Alfred State threw at them and held on for a 62-55 victory in a tight WNYAC contest.  The Pioneers are now 6-14 on the year and 1-6 in conference play.

The Alfred State women's basketball team played another tight Region III Division II contest and fell 57-54 at Jamestown CC on Thursday.  The Lady Pioneers are now 10-8 overall and 1-3 in RIII DII action.

Camille Romero (Queens Village/Mary Louis) and Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) each finished with 12 points each.  Witchella also grabbed 10 rebounds and registered five blocks.  Amie Brooks (Pavilion) chipped in 11, Ardaisha Hudson (Brooklyn/Food & Finance) had 10, and Nuri Bey (Bronx/HS of Computers & Technology) had eight points.
