Lady Pioneers Fall in Opener

The Alfred State women's soccer team fell 3-0 to Monroe (Bronx) College in their 2012 season opener. The game played in Rochester was part of the Monroe CC Invitational The Mustangs finished their trip to Rochester with a 2-0 record.

The Alfred State women's soccer team fell 3-0 to Monroe (Bronx) College in their 2012 season opener.  The game played in Rochester was part of the Monroe CC Invitational  The Mustangs finished their trip to Rochester with a 2-0 record.


Monroe found the back of the net twice in the first half and once more in the second.  Krista DeCarlo (Bayshore/West Islip) made 11 saves in net as the Lady Pioneers were outshot 22-5.


Alfred State Awarded Chapter Status by NECA

“Meaningful connections with industry leaders, is just one of the ways we prepare students to meet and exceed industry standards,” said Clark, adding, “it is also one of the reasons why Alfred State can boast a 99 percent placement rate.”

Alfred State has been authorized to establish a student chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA). The new student organization will debut on the Wellsville campus this year and will distinguish Alfred State as one of only 26 educational organizations in the country that operates a student-led chapter of the NECA organization.

Students Make a Difference in Haiti with Project-Based Learning

Students Erin Baum in HaitiEarlier this summer, the two most recent groups of students to travel to Haiti – 24 students in all – completed 10 days of work-intensive learning at the Haiti Health Ministry in Leogane.

Since the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, 64 Alfred State students in the College’s Agriculture & Veterinary Technology. “It was a powerful experience. No text book or lecture could have taught them what they learned from their experience in Haiti. Best of all, the contribution they made will be felt for years to come.”

An Alfred State training program for CNC precision machining has helped six displaced workers in Allegany County secure full-time employment in CNC machining.

The program is offered annually and involves 168 hours of hands-on learning. This year’s session concluded earlier this month and took place in the Alfred State machine shop located at the Dresser Rand facility in Wellsville. In all, eight residents from Allegany County participated.

New Student Convocation 2012Hundreds gathered to hear opening remarks and welcome the incoming class of 1,300 students who join the Alfred community from around the state and around the world.

Streater Creating a Buzz at Raider Camp

Updated 8/21: Former Alfred State football player Rod Streater is creating a buzz around the Oakland Raiders and the NFL after his performance in his first preseason game vs. the Dallas Cowboys. Streater, an undrafted free agent, spent a year as a safety and a year at wide receiver wearing the Pioneer blue & gold before transferring to Temple University for his final two years of college eligibility.

Update 8/21: Rod Streater caught seven passes for 43 yards in the Raiders second preseason game vs. the Arizona Cardinals.  He plays again on Saturday when Oakland hosts the Detroit Lions


Automotive Students Prepare for Record Run at Bonneville Salt Flats

Honda Insight HybridTen students and four faculty members from the Alfred State Automotive Trades Department are traveling to the famous Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah this week to attempt to break the land speed record for 1 liter automobiles.

Ten students and four faculty members from the Alfred State Automotive Trades Department are traveling to the famous Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah this week to attempt to break the land speed record for 1 liter automobiles. Department chair Kent Johnson will lead the team to Wendover, Utah, where over 450 competitors will compete in a variety of categories. Johnson notes that the effort is an example of the college's focus on project-based learning.
