Former Alfred State football player Rod Streater is creating a buzz around the Oakland Raiders and the NFL after his performance in his first preseason game vs. the Dallas Cowboys. Streater, an undrafted free agent, spent a year as a safety and a year at wide receiver wearing the Pioneer blue & gold before transferring to Temple University for his final two years of college eligibility.
Streater caught six passes for 66 yards in the Raiders Monday Night Football contest vs. the Dallas Cowboys. The Raiders were not able to use Streater's offensive production to produce any points and fell 3-0 to the Cowboys.
After the game Streater was asked about his first experience in the NFL, "It felt good, it really did. That's what you work for, to come out here and make plays. It's just a great experience."
During the contest Streater was a popular topic for ESPN analysts Mike Tirico and Jon Gruden. The duo even mentioned Streater's time at Alfred State and his NJCAA All-American performance in the high jump. ESPN's Skip Bayless also took time during the game to tweet about Streater's performance "Raiders must really love undrafted rookie Rod Streater. Can't remember rookie being so featured in 1st half of 1st preseason game - 6 for 66
In 2009 season at Alfred State. Streater caught 24 passes for 539 yards and six scores. During his freshman season wearing the blue & gold, Streater played safety on the defensive side of the ball and picked up 20 tackles and picked off two passes.
