Muhleisen and Rusek Named Athletes of the Week

Soccer player Kali Muhleisen (Alfred Almond) and Jordan Rusek (Williamsville East) were named the Alfred State athletes of the week.

Soccer player Kali Muhleisen (Alfred Almond) and Jordan Rusek (Williamsville East) were named the Alfred State athletes of the week.


Muhleisen continued her scoring assault with six more goals in the Lady Pioneers three victories this past week.  She scored both goals in Alfred's 2-1 win over #2 Finger Lakes CC, she netted one goal in a 3-0 win at Bryant & Stratton, and capped the week with three goals and an assist in a 8-0 homecoming win over Roberts Wesleyan JV.


Ribbon-Cutting Ceremonies Celebrate Transformation

Alfred State recently celebrated two historic ribbon-cutting events during its annual Homecoming Weekend. Both ceremonies marked the completion of sizeable construction projects that are among the largest the college has seen since the 1960s.

The first ribbon-cutting celebration marked the opening of the new Center for Organic and Sustainable Agriculture (COSA) at the College Farm. This facility is unlike any other of its kind and makes Alfred State one of only four colleges in the nation to provide organic and traditional instruction.

Pioneers Win Regular Season Finale

The Alfred State men's soccer team scored five goals in the 2nd half to break a 1-1 tie en route to a 6-1 victory over Roberts Wesleyan JV as they closed out the regular season portion of their schedule. The Pioneers are now-5-8-3 on the year.

Mitchell Porter (Alfred Almond) scored the first goal of the game at 31:09 into the contest after getting a nice set-up from Daniel Asante (Bronx Leadership Academy).  Roberts answered right back two and half minutes later with a goal by Gabe Necoechea.


Fifteen Straight for Lady Pioneers

Ten different Lady Pioneers recorded points as the Alfred State women's soccer team defeated Roberts Wesleyan JV 8-0 as the college celebrated Homecoming 2012. The blue & gold now have won 15 straight games and are 15-1 on the year.

Homecoming Rally Falls Short

The Alfred State football team put together a solid comeback attempt in the 2nd half but could not overcome an 27-3 halftime deficit in a 27-17 loss to Globe Institute of Technology. Alfred is now 3-2 on the year while Globe is 4-2.

The Pioneers got on the board first when Keegan Phalen (East Aurora) connected on a 40-yard field goal just seven minutes into the contest.


Volleyball Wins Two out of Three

The Alfred State volleyball team won two of three at the Tompkins Cortland CC Pod on Saturday. The blue & gold are now 23-11 overall and finish Region III Division III regular season with a 14-4 record.

The Lady Pioneers fell 3-2 to Corning CC (25-19, 21-25, 20-25, 25-19, 7-15) in their opener and then defeated Tompkins Cortland CC (25-13, 25-23, 25-8) and Broome CC 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-9).

Cross Country 11th at DeSales Invitational

The Alfred State cross country teams both finished 11th at the DeSales Invitional on Saturday. The men's team scored 313 points while the women scored 321.

Jordan Rusek (Williamsville East) was the top male finisher on the 8k course.  Rusek finished 24th in 28:07.6.  Jed Platt (Barker) was 25th (28:14.0).  There was 225 runners finished the race representing 23 colleges. 


Host DeSales University won with a score of 35.  Alfred State was the 3rd best NJCAA school in the competition.

The Alfred State women's soccer team ran their winning streak to 14 games with a 3-0 victory over Bryant & Stratton on Thursday afternoon in Syracuse. The Lady Pioneers, ranked #4 in NJCAA DIII, are now 14-1 on the season.

Hannah Gilray (Fredonia) scored the lone goal of the first half for the Pioneers.  She scored after getting a pass from Keri Teufel (Sachem).
