Track team runs well at Ithaca

The Alfred State College track & field team competed versus three NCAA schools and three NJCAA schools at the Ithaca Open.

Numerous Pioneers came home with 3rd place finishes.  Nathan Smith (Clymer) finished 3rd in the hammer throw (41.16 m), Zak Williamson (Rocky Point) finished 3rd in the 1,500 (4:09.66), Dan Fabiny (Wellsville) was 3rd in the discus (36.04 m), Jason Cady (Dundee) was 3rd in the shot put (10.88 m), and Alex Curran (Williamson) was 3rd in the pole vault (4.05 m).

A-State falls to Herkimer

The Alfred State College lacrosse team led #1 Herkimer CCC 5-4 after the first quarter but the Generals got the offense going and outscored the Pioneers 25 to 6 the rest of the way for the 29-11 victory.  HCCC outscored ASC 11 to 3 in the 2nd and 8 to 0 in the 3rd to take control of the contest.  #1 Herkimer is now 10-1 on the year while the Pioneers fall to 7-4 (6-3 Region III).

Reynolds finishes 6th, Farrell in 7th in Decathlon

Alfred State College's Dan Reynolds (Wayland Cohocton) finished 6th in the Region III Decathlon Championship.  Teammate Paul Farrell (St. Francis) is in 7th.

On day two, Reynolds won the pole vault with a mark of 4.10 m.  He ran the 1,500 in 5:21.6, the 110 m hurdles in 20.4, threw the discus 22.73 m, and threw the javelin 32.79 m.  He finished the event with 4,385 points. 

Baseball Win Streak Reaches Thirteen

The Alfred State College baseball team got the bats going as they ran their winning streak to 13 games with a doubleheader sweep of Ithaca College JV, 17-6 & 11-1.  With the win the Pioneers are now 20-9-1 heading into a four-game series with Monroe CC beginning on Thursday.

The Alfred State College lacrosse team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 19-14 victory over SUNY Delhi on Sunday in a game played at Hartwick College.  With the victory, the Blue and Gold improve to 7-3 (6-2 Region III) on the year.

Baseball Keeps Rolling

The Alfred State College baseball team made it 11 straight wins with a doubleheader sweep of Lackawanna College on Saturday afternoon, 4-1 & 8-1.  The Blue and Gold improve to 18-9-1 on the year with their fifth straight doubleheader sweep.

In the opener, the Pioneers scored two runs in both the 1st and 2nd innings to grab the lead.  Kevin Underhill (Somers) had a key two-RBI single while Kelvin Espinosa (George Washington) and Jeff Paul (Horseheads) each were credited with RBI.

The Alfred State College track & field team had a strong showing at the SUNY Brockport on Saturday afternoon as they competed versus NCAA Division III and NJCAA competition.

Dan Fabiny (Wellsville) had a big day as he won the 200 m dash (22.48) and finished 4th in the 100 m dash (11.19).  He was also a part of the 2nd place 4 x 100 relay team (43.46).  In the relay he teammed with Alvin Flemming (Eastridge), Geoff Kobuszewski (Solvay), and Justin Kopta (Clymer).

The Alfred State College softball team dropped a WNYAC doubleheader to Mercyhurst North East on Saturday afternoon.  In the opener, the Lady Pioneers played tough but fell 6-4 and in the nightcap the Lady Saints scored early to take control of the contest and won 13-3.  ASC falls to 8-14 on the season.

In the opener, the Lady Pioneers took a 2-0 lead in the 2nd but Mercyhurst scored the games next five runs.  ASC cut it to 5-4 in the 6th inning but MNE added an insurance run in the 7th to seal the victory.

The Alfred State College lacrosse team jumped out to a 3-0 lead but Finger Lakes CC scored six of the next seven goals and never gave the lead up in a 19-14 Region III victory.  With the victory the Lakers improve to 8-7 while the Pioneers fall to 6-3.

Lady Pioneers fall to Genesee

The Alfred State College softball team dropped both games in a WNYAC doubleheader at Genesee CC on Thursday.  The Lady Pioners fell 7-2 and 16-1 to fall to 8-12 overall on the year.

In the opener, Holly Fitzpatrick (Hornell) led the Pioneers offense with a 3 for 3 day.  She also scored a run.  Bridgett Bachert (Horseheads) finished 1 for 2 while Becky Simpson (Campbell Savona) scored the other run.

Fitzpatrick, Bachert, and Simpson all collected hits in the second game as the Blue and Gold fell behind early and never could recover.
