Lady Pioneers sweep Erie

The Alfred State College softball team ran their winning streak to four games with a doubleheader sweep at Erie CC.  The Lady Pioneers improve to 5-7 on the season with 23-1 and 5-2 victories.

In the opener, ASC scored nine runs in the 3rd inning and 10 more in the 5th inning to take control of the contest.  The Lady Pioneers took advantage of 12 Kat walks and two hits batsmen.  Teresa Walker (Jamestown) was 3 for 4 with three runs scored and three RBI while Holly Fitzpatrick (Hornell) was 1 for 2 with four runs scored.

The Alfred State College baseball team jumped over .500 with a home doubleheader sweep of Tompkins Cortland CC on Tuesday.  ASC scored a run in the 7th to win the opener 3-2 and then got the offense going in a 11-2 victory in game two.  The Pioneers are now 10-9-1 on the season.

57th Annual Alumni Choral Spring Concert Scheduled

Alfred State College presents the 57thAnnual Alumni Choral Spring concert, under the direction of Anthony Cappadonia, ASC director of vocal music emeritus.  The concert will be held Sunday, April 20, at 2 p.m. in the Orvis Activities Center Auditorium on the Alfred State College campus.

The concert is open to the public free of charge and features the Alfred State College Alumni Choir; the Alumni Jazz Singers, the '87 Collegiate Quartet, and Andy's A cappella Armada.

Track Starts Fast in Outdoor Opener

The Alfred State College outdoor track and field team finally got their 2008 season started in the sunshine at the University of Rochester on Sunday afternoon.  The Pioneers put together some impressive performances in their season opener.

Andy Omoregie (Gates Chili) won the 110 hurdles (15.49), finished 2nd in the long jump (6.44 m), and 3rd in the high jump (1.86 m) to pace the men's team while Najia McGee (Rochester/Edison) finised 2nd in both the 100 (12.77) and the 200 (26.16) on the women's side.

The Alfred State College baseball team defeated Hagerstown CC 5-0 in the nightcap to earn a split of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.  The Pioneers are now 8-9-1 on the season.

Andrew Foster (Clarkson, ONT.) tossed a complete game two-hitter to lead the Pioneers to a victory in the nightcap.  He walked just two and struck out 11 Hawk batters.

The Alfred State College softball team opened up the Northern portion of their schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Elmira College JV on Thursday evening.  The Blue and Gold won the opener 11-7 and the nightcap 12-0.  ASC improves to 3-7 on the year.

Lax downs Genesee

The Alfred State College lacrosse team won their second straight and improved to 3-1 (2-0 Region III) with a 17-11 victory at Genesee CC on Thursday.  ASC outscored GCC 7-1 in the 3rd quarter to take full control of the contest.

Bill Jolly (Waterloo) and Josh Mateo (Waterloo) led the offense with nine points each.  Jolly scored five goals and passed out four assists while Mateo recorded a hat trick and passed out six assists.

Baseball splits with Corning

The Alfred State College baseball team split a Region III doubleheader versus Corning CC on Thursday at Bolivar Richburg High School.  The Red Barons took the opener 4-0 while the Pioneers won the nightcap 12-3.

Steve Hughes tossed a complete game six hitter to lead Corning to the game one victory.  He sturck out three and walked none.  Mike Dipierro led the Red Baron offensive attack with a 2 for 4, 2 RBI day while Dan Telehany was 2 for 4.
