Lady Pioneers Fall in Myrtle

The Alfred State softball team couldn't must enough offense and fell in both halves of a Snowbird Softball doubleheader in Myrtle Beach, SC. The Pioneers fell 9-0 to Danville Area (IL) CC and 9-1 to Herkimer CCC.

Alfred was held to just four hits in the opening game versus Danville.

In game two versus Herkimer, Shelby Freligh (Auburn/Union Springs) and Elisha Conklin (Castile/Letchworth) were each 2 for 2 with a double.  Taylor McCarthy (Watkins Glen) drove in the lone run for Alfred.

Errors Cost Pioneers

The Alfred State baseball team committed five errors in the first two innings and fell behind early and never could recover in a 13-0 loss at Roane State (TN) CC.  The Pioneers are 0-5 in the early going of the 2012 season.

In total, Alfred allowed eight unearned runs in the contest and was held to just four hits.  Joe Dullea (Cold Spring/Haldane) tossed three solid innings of relief allowing two earned runs.  Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cochocton) was 1 for 3 with a double.

In both of their games on Tuesday, the Alfred State softball dug themselves into early holes and could never recover. Finger Lakes jumped out to a 6-0 lead en route to a 6-2 victory and Delaware Tech scored 10 in the 1st inning leading to a 18-4 victory.

The Lady Pioneers are now 1-3 halfway through their annual trip to Snowbird Softball in Myrtle Beach, SC. 

They are scheduled to take on Danville Area (IL) CC at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday and then battle Herkimer CCC at 11:30 a.m.

March 20 New Horizons Forum to Feature Leon Buckwalter

Alfred State’s March 20 New Horizons Forum will feature , assistant professor, Building Trades, presenting an account of his work on an international team to re-create sections of the 17th century Gwozdziec Synagogue in Poland during the summer of 2011. The presentation will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20 in room 215 of the Engineering Technology (SET) building on the Alfred campus.

Pioneers Drop Two Tough Ones

The Alfred State baseball team fell in two hard fought contests to Hiwassee College as they opened up their 2012 spring trip in Tennessee.  The Pioneers fell 7-3 in the opener and 4-1 in the nightcap.

The Alfred State softball team started their 2012 season with a split on their opening day at Snowbird Softball in Myrtle Beach, SC.  The Lady Pioneers fell 10-0 to Raritan (NJ) Valley CC but rebounded for a 13-1 victory over Massasoit (MA) CC.

In the opener, Alfred trailed 2-0 in the 4th before Raritan Valley connected on two homers in an 8-run inning to put the game out of reach.  Reagan Ball (Hammondsport) collected a double and Athena Scavo (Hornell) had a single to account for the Lady Pioneers two hits.

Pioneers Lacrosse Wins in Final Seconds

Mike Hart (Ajax, ONT) scored with 17 seconds remaining in the game to lift the Alfred State lacrosse team to a 12-11 victory over Herkimer CCC in their 2012 season opener.

Alfred led the close contest most of the way.  They led 3-1 after the 1st, 7-5 at halftime, and 9-8 after three.  The Pioneers held a 11-9 lead only to see the Generals score twice to tie it up before Hart's game-winner.

Pioneers Finish 12th at Nationals

The Alfred State men's swimming team wrapped up the 2012 NJCAA National Championships in 12th place.  The Pioneers scored 230 points in the four-day national event held at Indian River State College in Ft. Pierce, FL.

The 400 free relay team of Jake Giglio (Hornell), Josh McDowell (Wayland Cohocton), Mark Pendleton (Beacon), and Josh Stellrecht (Oakfield Alabama) finished 12th in the final event of the championships.  They touched the pad at 3:30.70.

Lax Opener Moved Back a Day

Saturday's season opening lacrosse game at Herkimer CCC has been moved back a day due to the snow and cold weather in the region.  The Pioneers and Generals will now play at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday in the season opener for both teams.

The Alfred State men's swimming team remains in 11th place after the third day of competition at the NJCAA National Championships. The Pioneers have 164 points heading into the final day of events on Saturday.
