The Alfred State baseball team fell in two hard fought contests to Hiwassee College as they opened up their 2012 spring trip in Tennessee.  The Pioneers fell 7-3 in the opener and 4-1 in the nightcap.

Ryan Hierlwimmer (Livonia) connected on a two run single in the top of the 6th in the opener to knot the game at 3-3 but Hiwassee answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to earn the victory.  Hierlwimmer led the offense with a 3 for 3 day while Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cohocton) was 2 for 3.  Ruben Mizrahi (Weston, FL) tossed a complete game for the Pioneers.

Hiwassee scored single runs in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th innings and got a solid pitching performance to hold off the Pioneers in game two.  Garrett Hoag (Dansville) struck out eight in four innings of work in his first outing on the mound this season.  Kiele Wilson (Bath) drove home the blue & gold's lone run on a RBI double in the 3rd that tied the game at 1-1 at the time.

The Pioneers continue their trip on Tuesday with a 2 p.m. single game vs. Roane State CC (Harriman, TN).
