Baseball to Host Prospect Camp

Alfred State baseball coach Jason Cronin and the rest of the coaching staff will host a Prospect Camp on Sunday, Jan. 27th at the Orvis Activities Center. The camp will allow high school players to showcase their skills in front of the Pioneer coaching staff.  Each participant will receive an evaluation of their skills from the coaching staff.

There will be two sessions during the day.  In the first between 9 a.m. and Noon infielders and outfielders will be evaluated while in the second between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. pitchers and catcher will be looked at.


WINS members raise funds for breast cancer awareness

Architecture students earn awards for sketches produced in Italy

Pioneers Finish 3rd at JCC Invitational

The Alfred State swimming team wrapped up the 2012 portion of their season with a 3rd place showing at the Jamestown CC Invitational. Only the men's team competed and scored 155 points on the day.

Mark Pendleton (Beacon) was 2nd in the 100 free (57.39) and 3rd in the 100 back (1:05.31) while Tyler Easterbook (Bath) was 2nd in the 500 free (5:48.04) and was 3rd in the 200 free (2:06.84) to lead the team.

Student awarded national scholarship to participate in study abroad program

Deschamps is a junior studying architectural technology at Alfred State. He was selected for the scholarship out of more than 2,600 applications and will receive $4,500 from the organization to participate in Alfred State’s study abroad program in Sorrento, Italy in January.

Alfred State student Bernardo Deschamps of Brooklyn, NY, has been awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship.

Presented annually, the purpose of this scholarship is to add diversity to study abroad programs. The scholarship is offered by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the Institute of International Education (IIE).

Student awarded AIA scholarship

Alfred State student Kodie Tompkins is one of three area students who have been awarded a total of $6,000 in scholarship funds from the Rochester chapter of the American Institute of Architecture (AIA) and the Architectural Foundation of Greater Rochester.

Alfred State student Kodie Tompkins is one of three area students who have been awarded a total of $6,000 in scholarship funds from the Rochester chapter of the American Institute of Architecture (AIA) and the Architectural Foundation of Greater Rochester.

Tompkins and his fellow scholarship recipients from RIT and the Wentworth Institute of Technology received the awards at a golfing event held in Macedon this fall, hosted by AIA and the Architectural Foundation.

Tompkins, of Savannah, NY, is a freshman at Alfred State where he is studying architectural technology.

Pioneers Can't Overcome Early Hole

Fueled by three forfeit victories in the first five matches, Mercyhurst North East jumped to a 25-0 lead en route to a 37-16 WNYAC dual meet victory over Alfred State.  The Pioneers finish the 2012 portion of their season with a 1-3 overall mark and a 1-2 WNYAC record.

The Pioneers earned victories in three straight matches after falling behind.  Josh Simons (Campbell Savona) earned a pin at 165, Connor Fox (Midlakes) earned a major decision at 174, and Josh Lord (Owego Free) earned a forfeit victory at 184.

Website and publication earn awards of excellence

The Alfred State website was recently awarded a gold medal for creative design in the MarCom Awards 2012 competition and a silver medal for creative design by the International Academy of the Visual Arts (Davey Awards).

The newsletter won a gold medal for design by MarCom Awards, and marketing and promotional materials earned three honorable mentions.

Melissa Blake, court reporting instructor, recently completed Certified Program Evaluator (CPE) training for the National Court Reporters Association. As a result, Blake is now qualified to evaluate undergraduate court reporting programs, assist schools through the rigorous certification process, and help influence the growth of the court reporting and captioning profession.
