Dr. L. David Pye, dean and professor of glass science emeritus at the NYS College of Ceramics at Alfred University, will present “Examining The Shroud of Turin” at the Alfred State New Horizons Forum on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. in Room 215 of the Engineering Technologies Building. The public is invited free of charge; refreshments will be served prior to the event.

The vehicle, which had been deemed “totaled” by the company, is one of several that the company has donated to a variety of autobody programs, both high school and college, over the years.

Dignitaries gathered at Alfred State recently to sign the “ceremonial beam,” signifying moving from phase 1 of construction of the Student Leadership Center (the steel and concrete done by Christa Construction) to phase 2, (the move to the interior of the structure, to be done by Manning Squires Hennig Co. Inc.).

On Jan. 25, 2012, four students from the Dr. Ron Rhoades to Binghamton, where they attended a luncheon of the Southern Tier Chapter of the Financial Planning Association. They also attended a panel discussion with several practitioners, where they were able to ask questions regarding key tips for new financial planners.

Alfred State President Dr. John M. Anderson has been invited to travel to Salzburg, Austria, to participate in The Salzburg Global Seminar's Sustainable Futures Academy. He is one of a select number of higher education and sustainability leaders to take part in a special planning meeting from Jan. 31-Feb. 4.

“I am honored to be a member of this esteemed group of leaders,” Anderson said. “Being invited to attend this seminar speaks volumes about the strides Alfred State has made in the field of sustainability.”

Alfred State will host author Rahul Mehta on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. in room 215 of the Engineering Building on the Alfred campus. The event, which is sponsored by the college’s English Department, student literary magazine Ergo, the Drama Club, and the Rainbow Union, is open to the public free of charge. There will be a reception following his talk.

Mehta’s presentation will consist of his reading an essay he wrote about his coming out to his parents. He will also discuss the title story of his most recently published book "Quarantine."

Alfred State will welcome “Dr. Z,” aka Dr. Stephen Zawistowski, PhD, CAAB (certified applied animal behaviorist), executive vice president, national programs science adviser to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, NYC, who will serve as the college’s commencement speaker on Sunday, May 13, 2012. He previously addressed the ASC community on companion animals in 2010.
