“There are so many different fields you can go into, so many creative sides, and there is money in welding right now. They need a lot of new workers.”
Alexander Preston

Staying close to home and continuing his education in welding led Alexander Preston (Arkport, NY) to Alfred State.
“I chose Alfred State because all I have heard my entire life is Alfred is the place to be. I studied welding in BOCES in high school and just carried my studies over.”

Alexander is excited to continue his learning. “There are so many different fields you can go into, so many creative sides, and there is money in welding right now. They need a lot of new workers.”
The combination of lab time, lectures, and support from his professors have aided his experiences. “I've learned so much from coming here, and the professors are great, they help you out a lot.”
Alexander appreciates that Alfred State helps connect students with internships in the summer and helps with finding a career after graduation. “My dream job is to do pharmaceutical welding. It is a lot of TIG work, very expensive stuff.”
He encourages those looking to become a welder to come to Alfred State. “This program is one of the best on the east coast and in my opinion in the country.”
Alexander has built a bond at Alfred State that will lead him to payday down the road.
