The New York Governor’s Office has recently appointed Matthew J. Collins, P.E., PMP to the Alfred State College Council.
Council members serve without salary as an advisory group to the president of the college. Authority of the Council is in such areas as regulations governing student conduct, regulations concerning care and management of campus facilities, review of academic programs, approval of candidates for college degrees, and selection of the college president.
Collins is a Manager of Project Management for Sullivan Park Operations in the Science and Technology Division at Corning Incorporated. In his position, he is responsible for enabling innovation for the Technical Community at Corning by overseeing and driving projects to a successful completion. His multi-faceted role involves understanding technical requirements, managing project teams, and delivering robust design solutions by utilizing the project life cycle. He has held this position since 2017.

Prior to his current position, he served Corning Incorporated as a Project Leader (June 2015 – September 2017), was the Maintenance Supervisor at the Corning Museum of Glass (December 2013 – June 2015) and was a HVAC Design/Mechanical Engineer at DPC Engineering P.C. (January 2005 - December 2013).
Collins graduated from Alfred State in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering technology. While at ASC, he was recognized for his academic excellence with induction into the Tau Alpha Pi honor society.
He earned his master’s degree from Penn State in Mechanical Engineering and holds an active NYS Professional Engineering License and is an active Project Management Professional.
An enthusiastic outdoorsman, Collins is an active member of Trout Unlimited – Leon Chandler Chapter, has served on the Leadership Committee for the Twin Tiers International Federation of Fly Fishers, and serves as Capital Project Planning Committee Leader for a Seneca Lake Park Association. He also served as a coach for Big Flats Youth Basketball.
