Malhas named Interim Dean for the School of Architecture, Management & and Engineering Technology

Faris Malhas, PhD has been appointed the Interim Dean for the School of Architecture, Management & Engineering Technology at Alfred State College (ASC). Dr. Malhas brings a wealth of experience to the position.

“As we launch a national search for our permanent Dean for the School of Architecture, Management, and Engineering Technology, we chose to use The Registry to hire a proven leader in the field to help manage the day-to-day operations of the College and provide guidance and mentoring to our faculty and students,” commented Vice President for Academic Affairs Carrie Cokely.

Cokely continued, “Dr. Malhas brings a wealth of experience to the role and has actively worked with faculty, staff, and industry partners in many of the areas included in SAMET. I am delighted to welcome him to campus and look forward to his contributions both at the school level and as a member of our leadership team in Academic Affairs.”

Most recently Malhas served as Deam of the Gadomski School of Engineering at Christian Brothers University (Memphis, TN). Prior to CBU, he served as the Dean of Faculty at Kuwait College of Science & Technology (2018-20).

He has also served as Dean of the School of Engineering, Science & Technology at Central Connecticut State University (New Britain, CT), Dean of the College of Architecture, Applied Engineering, and Technology at Bowling Green State University (Bowling Green, OH), and Dean of the Leonard C. Nelson College of Engineering & Sciences at West Virginia University Institute of Technology (Beckley, WV).

In his career he has taught a wide range of classes at the undergraduate and graduate level starting at a variety of institutions including the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Bradley University (Peoria, IL), the University of Bahrain, and the University of North Florida (Jacksonville, FL).

He has authored numerous books and been featured in countless articles and reports. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE), and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).

Dr. Malhas received a BSE and MSE in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. He also holds an MS in Engineering Mechanics and a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The School of Architecture, Management & Engineering Technology consists of six academic departments (architecture and design, business, civil engineering technology, computer and information technology, digital media and animation, and mechanical and electrical engineering technology) that offer eighteen associate degrees and twenty-two bachelor’s degrees. Over 1,200 full-time and 180 part-time students are enrolled and are taught by over ninety faculty and staff.
