“I got this gut feeling that this was going to be a good fit for me. I found a new family, I found my dance team girls, my nursing program and my professors are amazing.”
Angie Jimenez
Alfred State has been the perfect fit for Angie Jimenez (Goshen, NY). The nursing major has not only loved her classes, but she has also created friendships that have developed a second family.
“I was looking at nursing programs in many different places. I wanted to stay in state, and I really wanted to be able to just go straight into the program without having to do two years of pre-requisites.”

Alfred State was the first place that accepted Angie. “It was a sign for me to check out the school more. I also got a scholarship with my acceptance into this amazing program. It made it more of an easy pick because it helped with my expenses.”
Angie enjoys the classroom environment. “I am loving my A&P classes. They are my favorite. It is so interesting to see how different parts of the body come together and make everything work. I love that classes go in depth. We have done fun things in labs, and I get the hands-on experience of seeing it.”
The professors have added to her experience. “The instructors are very passionate about what they do, and they are caring enough to fully show you what it is supposed to be like.”
Angie has been able to make new friends with her suitemates. “When I came here, I did not know anybody, and it was scary. When I met my suitemates, and we started talking and having fun together I instantly realized that I had a family away from home. That made me happy, and it made my parents and all my family back home happy because they knew I would be safe and taken care of. I one hundred percent see them being my friends for a long time.”
Outside the classroom and the dorms, Angie has enjoyed being the choreographer for the dance team. “The dance team has been amazing, like therapy, and just so much fun all in one.”
Angie loves the beauty of the area. “It is just so pretty. I love just going on drives around the campus loop. It is so calming especially when the trees are fully blossomed. Once you get on top of campus you just look out and you can see both campuses and you can see people walking and talking and having a great time together.”
Angie has gotten much more than she expected at Alfred State. “I got this gut feeling that this was going to be a good fit for me. I found a new family, I found my dance team girls, my nursing program and my professors are amazing.”
