The Alfred State archery team had a strong showing at the USA Archery’s 55th Annual Indoor Nationals. Six archers competed in the multi-day regional event held in Harrisonburg, VA.

In this event, archers shoot 120 arrows at 18 meters. The tournament uses regional results to determine national rankings.

Alfred State senior Ben Kingsley (Chittenango, NY) led the way. He finished second out of 28 archers in the Men’s Fixed Pins division with a score of 1,179. His shooting led him to an 11th place finish nationally.

Brandon Stanton (Union Springs, NY) broke the school record by shooting a 1,164. He placed fourth in the Men’s Compound division out of 22 archers. His result landed him a 22nd place finish in the nation and beat the previous school record by thirteen points.

Brianna Fagan (Spencerport, NY), Travis Cooney (Smethport, PA), Matt Stungis (Neversink, NY), and Adam Winter (Clifton Park, NY) also represented Alfred State against some of the country’s top shooters.

Coordinator of Campus Recreation Brooke Scianna traveled with the team to assist and observe their progress at the national event. “It was impressive to see an event like this in person. The level of investment by the archers in the precision of their equipment, their methodical process, and their overall passion for their sport is something you must see for yourself to understand. I am proud of the team and look forward to seeing their continued accomplishments.”
