Rafael Class (Bronx, NY) wants to make his mother proud as he pursues his degree in electrical engineering technology while playing on the Alfred State football team.
“I chose Alfred State because when I came on my visit, I was very impressed with the academic support system that they offered to students on campus. The football coach recruited me, and it just seemed like a good fit for me.”
“I like electrical engineering because it is very hands-on. I came here with absolutely no knowledge of the electrical engineering major, and I just wanted to try something new and learn. I knew that this was a great career path for me.”
Rafael likes the support he has received from his professors thus far. “When I do need them, they have all the answers to my questions. They just really support me in everything that I do.”
Life in Alfred is different than what Rafael experienced growing up. “I am a person that likes to stargaze. I just lay down on a football field or sit on a bench and look up in the sky and there is plenty of stars that you really don not see in the city. I really enjoy the peace and really getting to concentrate on my studies.”
Rafael enjoys the bonds he has with his teammates on the football team that started during preseason camp. “Being a part of the football team allowed me to really network with people that I never met before from different areas. You get to hang out with people you never expected to hang out with.”
In addition to playing on the football team, Rafael keeps himself busy working in the admissions office and the athletic department. “Working with everybody enhances my college experience because it's really taking the parts of each job and putting it into play in my life. What I do helps me proceed in what I want to do in the future.”
Rafael knows graduating from Alfred State will make his mother proud as he will become the first person in his family to earn a degree.
Alfred State has put Rafael on the field for success in and out of the classroom.
