Alfred State College has announced the appointment of Professor William Dean, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, as the NCARB Architect Licensing Advisor for the architectural programs. Professor Dean will assume his position effective July 1, in addition to his duties as chair of the Architecture and Design department.

The Architectural Experience Program (AXP), administered by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), is a framework that guides emerging professionals through earning and reporting their professional experience. It is required to become an architect in New York State.

Architect Licensing Advisors are responsible for disseminating up-to-date information on AXP to students and faculty at their schools. Like the AXP State Advisors, these volunteers are informed on AXP by NCARB daily and communicate with the AIA, NCARB, and with each other regularly. These individuals are also considered trusted sources of information on AXP and are funded to attend the bi-annual Licensing Advisors Summit.

Of his new position, Dean says, “I am pleased to be returning to this role and to be assisting an incredibly active, dynamic, and engaged group of students and faculty.”

Dean holds both a MArch and a BPS in architecture from the University at Buffalo and an AAS in architectural technology from Alfred State College.

He is a Registered Architect and a long-standing member of the American Institute of Architects. In addition, Professor Dean is certified by NCARB and by the Construction Specifications Institute as a Construction Document Technologist and is a Leadership in Energy Efficient Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP).

Dean has previously been named a 2022 NCARB Scholar in Professional practice.
