Alfred State Archery recently received a generous gift from Burdic’s Bow Werx: an advanced Specialty Archery Pro Press system that is designed to be among the safest and most user-friendly bow presses available to bow clubs and shops today.
Burdic’s Bow Werx is located in Fulton and provides archery sales and service to the region. Owner Jim Burdic coordinated the gift by organizing a raffle whose proceeds would be directed to this subsequent gift.

“I can see the potential in the Alfred State Archery Team and wanted to contribute toward their growth and success,” he said. As a shop owner, the Specialty Press is the best press I’ve ever used, and I know it will serve the team well.”
Alfred State Archery Coach Greg Sammons was delighted by the gift, adding, “This gift was incredibly generous and will serve us well for years and years to come. Members of the archery community are among the most helpful and generous people I know and Jim at Bow Werx is no exception. His kindness speaks volumes and we cannot thank him enough for assisting us with the upgrade.”
A bow press is a mechanical device that secures and flexes a bow’s limbs to take the tension away from the bow’s strings and cables, thus allowing maintenance and tuning access. A bow press is a critical piece of equipment to most intermediate and advanced bow repairs and is particularly important to competitive tournament archers who are tuning equipment for greater precision. The Pro Press given to the Alfred State Archery Club also included the optional Pro Press Draw Pro board that allows archers to synchronize their bow’s cam (eccentric) systems and even plot their bow’s draw force curves.
The Alfred State Archery Team has had their fall schedule disrupted due to COVID-19 and they plan to be back in action this winter with the USA Archery Indoor Nationals where they will defend multiple medal finishes from this past February.
