Alfred State archer Jay Lawrence named to 2020 All-American team

Alfred State is proud to announce that USA Archery has named Alfred State archer Robert “Jay” Lawrence IV to its 2020 All-American Team. Lawrence is the first Pioneer to achieve this honor in the four-year history of Alfred State’s program.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the spring 2020 collegiate archery season was cancelled, which means that honors were calculated exclusively on results from the USA Archery Indoor Nationals.

In a press release, USA Archery expressed sharing the heartbreak of collegiate archers and coaches on the loss of the spring season. USA Archery CEO Rod Menzer said, “On behalf of USA Archery, congratulations to the 2020 All-American Team. This is a tough year and we are proud of all of you and your accomplishments. We celebrate your outstanding performances this year so far and look forward to seeing you on the field again soon.”

The 2020 All-American Team is composed of the top 25 percent of archers (up to a maximum of 10) in each division and class that participated in the US Indoor Nationals. Lawrence, who is a surveying and geomatics engineering technology from Fort Ann, is a sophomore who took fourth in the nation during the 51st Indoor Nationals.

In 2021, the award will revert to the standard calculation, where scores from Indoor Nationals and Collegiate Target Nationals are used to determine placement on the team.
