Many smiling faces were to be found during Hot Dog Day 2018.

The 47th annual Hot Dog Day was another fun and memorable celebration for the students of Alfred State and Alfred University, as well as the community.

With the beautiful weather, thousands of attendees came out to eat hot dogs, shop the stands of local vendors, and simply enjoy the community festival. In addition to the fun, the annual event also usually raises upwards of $10,000 for local charities, and this year was no exception.

In total, the event raised approximately $10,000, which was then awarded to the following charities: ACCORD Corporation, AE Crandall Hook and Ladder, Alfred Station Fire Company, Allegany-Cattaraugus-Chautauqua Fund for Women, Allegany County Mental Health Association, Allegany Senior Foundation, and Allegany ARC.

This year marked the first time that Hot Dog Day was held in the center spine of the Alfred State campus, and the location was a great success, according to Alfred State Director of Student Engagement Troy Morehouse.

"It was great having the festival where we could show off the true beauty of the Alfred State campus,” he said. “Numerous alumni commented how great it was to see how the campus has changed, and enjoyed seeing the hills and Alfred University from the Alfred State side of the valley."

John Lewis, director of Student Activities at Alfred University, said, “Being my first time helping organize Hot Dog Day, I thought our teams work wonderful together, and Troy led us through the whole day like he was conducting a symphony with many parts moving together. The day cannot happen without volunteers, and everyone stepped up to the plate and brought a smile with them. Even Mother Nature came out and helped aid in this great event with a beautiful day. We can’t wait to host next year and keep the good vibes going.”

Hot Dog Day 2019 will be held on the Alfred University campus in the Academic Alley area on Saturday, April 27.
