ASC Announces New Faculty and Staff Members

Several new faculty and staff members have joined the Alfred State College community.

Among the new hires announced in the Academic Affairs Division were Jonathan Perkins. All joined the School of Applied Technology.

Benjamin GroverGrover, of Scio, has been hired to teach in the Electrician and Computer Technician Department, where he instructs freshmen in computer networking technology. He holds an associate’s degree from Alfred State College. Prior to joining the ASC faculty, Grover worked at Dresser-Rand and Union Drilling, Inc. The Scio Central School graduate is the son of Benjamin Grover, Scio, and Ang Schoenherr, of Allegany. He and his wife, the former Christie Tomm are the parents of three children, all at home.

Jonathan HodginsHodgins, of Canisteo, has been hired as a lecturer in the Culinary Arts Department where he teaches nutrition and purchasing and oversees the cafeteria laboratory. Hodgins holds a bachelor of professional studies in Culinary Art and Service Management from Paul Smith’s College. The Canisteo Central School graduate is the son of Kenneth and Barbara Hodgins, Frewsburg. He and his wife, the former Ara Antigua, are the parents of Kenneth, at home.

R. Jack JonesJones, of Genesee, PA, has been hired as an instructor in the Building Trades, where he teaches construction essentials to freshmen and seniors. Prior to joining the ASC faculty, Jones was an apprentice carpenter, a tradesman at Air Tech Systems, and an adjunct professor at ASC. He also operates a general contracting business. He served in the US Air Force from 1995-99. Jones holds a bachelor of science in business administration from Mansfield University.

The Northern Potter High School graduate is the son of Robert and Nancy Jones, Genesee, PA. He and his wife, the former Lindsay Reed, are the parents of three children, all at home.

Jason MillerMiller, of Belmont, has been hired to teach freshmen in the Building Trades Department. He holds an associate’s degree from Alfred State College. The Belfast Central School graduate is the son of Randy and Melanie Miller, Belfast, and the father of Garrett, 5.

Kelley, of Almond, has been hired as a lecturer in the Electrician and Computer Technician Department where he teaches the freshman residential wiring lab. He holds an associate’s degree from Alfred State College. The Genesee Valley Central School graduate is the son of Richard and Jennifer Kelley, and the father of Dylan and Meara, both at home.

Jonathan PerkinsPerkins, of Hornell, has been hired as a lecturer in the computer and network technician curriculum. Prior to joining the ASC faculty, Perkins worked at Alstom as IT manager, as Helpdesk manager at Alfred State, and as a civilian electronics instructor for the Department of Defense United States Army Intelligence School, Fort Devens, MA.

Perkins holds a BTEE from Buffalo State College and an AAS EE from Mount Wachusett Community College, Gardner, MA. He served in the US Army from 1979-83.

The Iroquois Central High School graduate is the son of Eleanor Perkins, Coudersport, PA; he is married to the former Kelly Boushey; they are the parents of three adult children.

Additionally, there have been several appointments made in the ranks of the professional staff. Included among these are Kathryn Boccia, Glenn Brubaker, Rhonda DiPronio, Nichole France, Joseph Greenthal, and Patrick Smith.

Boccia, of Canisteo, has been hired as a personnel assistant in the Human Resources Department where she will assist employees with benefits, coordinating enrollments and option changes. Prior to joining the ASC staff, Boccia served as a human resource generalist at Anchor Glass, a council representative at Empire State Carpenters, and the owner/president of Aloette Cosmetics of Rochester. She holds a bachelor’s and an associate’s degree, both from Empire State College.

The Canisteo Central School graduate is the mother of four grown children.

Brubaker, of Andover, has been hired to serve as interim director of Facilities Services at the College. Prior to his recent appointment, Brubaker served as an assistant professor in the Electrician and Computer Technician Department. He holds a bachelor of professional studies degree from Empire State College and an associate’s degree from Alfred State.

The Whitesville Central School graduate is the son of Glenn E. and Josie Brubaker, Whitesville. He is married to the former Donna Morgan; they are the parents of two children.

DiPronio, of Hornell, has been hired as a university police officer. Her duties include keeping the peace, protecting the college community, and enforcing the law. Prior to joining the ASC staff, DiPronio served as a security officer at the Seneca Niagara Casino and as a police officer for the Orchard Park Police Department. She holds an associate’s degree from Erie Community College.

The Orchard Park High School graduate is the daughter of Jean and Richard DiPronio, Colden.

France, of Canisteo, has been hired as the help desk technician in the Technology Services Department, where she supervises help desk student technicians. Prior to joining the ASC staff, France served as a quality analyst at St. James Mercy Hospital, Hornell. She holds an associate’s degree from Alfred State College.

The Canisteo Central School graduate is the daughter of Robert and Valerie Nixon, Canisteo; she and her husband Lenny are the parents of four children, all at home.

Joseph GreenthalGreenthal, of Hornell, has been hired as a payment services assistant in the Business Affairs Department, where he administers the campus procurement card, and certifies travel requests and vendor payments.

Prior to joining the ASC staff, Greenthal served as a financial planning analyst for Nixon Peabody/Seneca Financial Advisors, LLC, and served in the US Army, attaining the rank of sergeant.

He holds a BBA in financial planning and an AAS in business administration, both from Alfred State College.

The Hornell High School graduate is the son of Lisa Dye and Fred Greenthal; he is the father of four children, all at home.

Smith, of North Tonawanda, has been hired as a residence director at Main Gate B at the college, where he supervises his staff of resident assistants and oversees the daily operations of the building.

He holds dual bachelor degrees from Alfred State: architectural technology.

Among new classified hires in the Department of Facilities Services:

Gregory Cole, of Caneadea, who, prior to joining the ASC staff, worked at Letchworth State Park. The Belfast High School graduate is the son of Donna Cole. He is married to the former Melissa Morton; they are the parents of two daughters.

Michael Waters, of Hornell, a Greenwood Central School graduate, holds an associate’s degree from Finger Lakes Community College.

Additional hires include Anwar Abubakr, Joseph Burke, Peter Hendrickson, Brian Quinn, Michael Smith, and Jaime White.
