Lady Pioneers Sweep Past Saints

The Alfred State College volleyball team earned a 25-18, 25-20, 25-22 victory over Mercyhurst North East in a WNYAC contest.  The Lady Pioneers improve to 18-12 overall on the season with the victory.

Meghan Kraus (Trumansburg) led the way with 14 kills and 12 digs while Ashley Hulse (Hammondsport) added nine kills, six digs, and two blocks.  Mandy Bush (Altoona, PA) contributed 22 assists, nine digs, six kills, and three aces.

Volleyball Team to host Dig Pink event

For the second year in a row and the third time in the past four years, the Alfred State College will be hosting a Dig Pink event.  All proceeds of Dig Pink events nationwide benefit the Side-Out Foundation, which in turn awards grants to medical research organizations and entities dedicated to providing compassionate support to breast cancer patients and their families.

Alfred State will host their Dig Pink event on Thursday, Oct. 13 when they host Finger Lakes CC at 6 p.m. The Lady Pioneers have a goal of raising $1,000.

Goode and Gooshaw Named ASC Athletes of the Week

Football player Desmond Goode (Johnson Mountain, VA) and cross country runner Brian Gooshaw (Elmira Heights/Thomas Edison) have been named ASC athletes of the week by the SID office.

Goode rushed for over 100 yards for the 3rd straight week.  He carried the ball 18 times in the Pioneers 51-35 victory over Alfred University JV for 144 yards and one score.  He was part of a rushing offense that accumulated 452 yards on 57 carries.  On the year, Goode has 473 total yards rushing and three scores.

Colter Johnson (Warren, PA) got the blue & gold on the board on their opening possession with a 22-yard field goal.  AU answered right back with a 10-yard pass from Tom Dzielski to Shawn Ano.

Volleyball Reaches Quarterfinals of OCC Tournament

The Alfred State College volleyball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Onondaga CC Cara Bryant Tournament but were unable to solve Jamestown CC.  ASC finished the tournament with a 3-2 record and is now 17-12 on the year.

After registering 2-0 victories over Corning CC and SUNY Delhi on Friday night, ASC split a pair of matches on Saturday morning, defeating Jefferson CC 25-17, 25-12 and falling to Jamestown CC 20-25, 25-27.

Two Second Half Goals Pace Pioneers

After struggling in the first half, the Alfred State men's soccer team erased a 1-0 halftime deficit with two second half goals to earn their second straight victory, 2-1 over Finger Lakes CC.  ASC is now 5-6-1 on the season.

The Alfred State College women's soccer team won their fourth straight and recorded their ninth shutout in a 2-0 road victory over Herkimer CCC.  The Lady Pioneers, ranked #8 in the latest NJCAA DIII poll, are now 11-2 overall and 10-2 in Region III Division III play.

After a scoreless first half, Jenna Lynn (York) got ASC on the board with 32:04 remaining in the game after getting a pass from Tiffany Fox (Canisteo Greenwood).  Fox added an insurance goal 12 minutes later when she bent a corner kick into the net.

In a preview of the NJCAA Division III National Championship course, the Alfred State College women's cross country team finished 18th out of 40 teams while the men finished 21st out of 33 teams at the James Earely Invitational hosted by Westfield (MA) State College.
