Patrick Lee Foundation
The Patrick Lee Foundation recently collaborated with Alfred State to generously support student scholarships. The recipients for the 2023-24 school year were four students who are in their second year in the automotive service technician program. These selected students wrote essays explaining how this scholarship would impact their education journey, circumstances of financial assistance, and their future goals. After being selected as a Patrick Lee Scholar, they partner with their alumni to continue the relationship that includes networking and helping to build a successful future. Our students proudly represent ASC and the Patrick Lee Foundation at the Patrick Lee Convening, which was held at the beginning of October.
Bellis Legacy in Scholarships
Edson Bellis legacy started when he fell in love with his late wife, Ruth, when they met each other in first grade in 1953. Their love blossomed in high school and following graduation, they both attended Alfred State.
Ruth graduated in 1967 with a business administration degree and Edson graduated in 1971 with a mechanical technical/design/drafting degree. Their late son, Aaron, attended Alfred State and graduated in 1998 with an automotive service technician degree.
Edson has written, “There are inexplicable detours in life. If we are blessed to live long enough, we each have to accept pain as a condition of existence. Especially when it comes to saying final goodbyes to those we love.”
Edson has generously given $200,000 in memory of Aaron and Ruth to continue to positively impact the students at Alfred State College.

Midland Asphalt Materials Impact at the Career Fair
Midland Asphalt attended the career fair and met two of our students, Hunter Stewart and Wyatt Schuster. They completed internships and once they graduate this May, they will become full-time employees of Midland Asphalt.
Hunter and Wyatt made such a positive impression that Midland Asphalt wanted to give back to Alfred State by offering a financial scholarship to students who are in the Heavy Equipment Operations and Heavy Equipment: Truck and Diesel Technician Programs.
During this fall’s career fair Nels Anderson, Midland Construction Superintendent met one of our scholarship recipients, Sean O’Brien.
Gifts in Action | Donations
Over the years, members of the Wamp family have supported people, causes, and places close to their hearts, and Alfred State College (ASC) is proud to be counted among them. This past year, former College Council member Tom Wamp, his wife, Joan, and his brother Mark Wamp, ’65, were able to come back to campus to see their “gifts in action” on behalf of their entire family. Their gift will help ensure the continued success of Alfred State students and will serve as another shining example of the many ways in which the Wamp family has stepped up and given back to others.
Zachry Construction Corporation
Zachry Construction Corporation, headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, recently donated a used John Deer backhoe to Alfred State’s Truck & Diesel program. A strong partnership has been developed over the years as Zachry has recruited graduates from the program.
Jeff Stevens, Dean for the Wellsville campus, stated, “We are proud of the fact that our Truck and Diesel program is rated #1 by U.S. News and World Reports. Graduates learn the skills that are of growing demand, and many receive jobs even before they graduate. We are grateful for the generous donation and partnership of Zachry Construction.”
The equipment will be used for repair and maintenance service training in our program.
The Hunt Family
Alan Hunt, ’79, and his family returned to campus for Homecoming. Hunt was the recipient of a Doctor of Humane Letters honorary degree in 2021 and his family are loyal supporters of Alfred State.

Planned Giving | Fall 2023
Our Legacy Society honors a special group of benefactors. Acting not only for today but for tomorrow, they leave an enduring legacy by naming Alfred State or a specific program/group as a beneficiary of their financial or estate plans. The Legacy Society was established to honor these donors now, as well as later.
Learn about this and more by visiting our Alfred State Planned Giving site with great resources, donor stories, and articles about estate planning.
