Dr. Mauro’s Travel Adventures

Since December, Alfred State President Dr. Steven Mauro has kept his suitcase busy as he has traveled to support students, visit alumni, and meet with industry partners. This was on top of many trips across New York for similar purposes.

Dr. Mauro has enjoyed his travels. “It was great to interact with current students, alumni, and industry in the past few months. I love listening to the stories and hearing the impact that Alfred State has made. I look forward to more trips and interacting with more amazing supporters of the work we do here.”

The travels began in December, when Mauro was part of a relief team that traveled to Ft. Myers, FL to work with the All Hands & Hearts organization. The team spent the week before Christmas helping with the cleanup from Hurricane Ian.

As the calendar turned to January, Mauro along with Danielle White, Vice President of Institutional Advancement, and Jill Dunn, Major Gifts Officer, headed to Texas. On the trip they were able to meet with Walter Sass ’78 and tour his company Weisser Engineering & Surveying.

The trip to Texas also featured a stop at the IUOE Training Center where the group got to see firsthand the tools that heavy equipment operators train on. The group was also able to discuss the partnership IUOE has with college.

In April, Dr. Mauro packed up again (even though the bags did not arrive in a timely manner) and flew to Sorrento, Italy and met with architecture students that spent most of the spring semester studying abroad at the Sant’Anna Institute. Along with interacting with the students and seeing the sights, Mauro signed a memorandum of understanding that continues the partnership that started in 2009.
