“Everybody makes you feel welcome, even people outside your major, which I really enjoy.”

Thanks to her experiences at Alfred State College, Carolyn Wright has grown as a student, a leader, and a person. As a result, she now feels more prepared to take on the real world.

In her program, Carolyn has received numerous hands-on learning opportunities, from working with a variety of different animals at the College Farm, to serving on the Dairy Judging Team, to touring farms in- and out-of-state. She has also enjoyed learning about the business side of agriculture.

“I think it’s important to know what’s currently going on in the industry and what the trends are, and Alfred State does a really great job of getting that across.”

Carolyn has also benefited by becoming a member of the Presidential Aspiring Leaders (PAL) Program, which helps students to strengthen their leadership skills. In addition to these valuable experiences, Carolyn also appreciates the one-on-one interaction she gets with professors at Alfred State, and the overall friendliness of the campus.

“Everybody makes you feel welcome, even people outside your major, which I really enjoy.”

Carolyn has definitely made the most of her time at Alfred State, and has made a big impact, as well. As a result, she received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence in the spring of 2019.

Carolyn definitely feels Alfred State has prepared her for that next step after graduation.

“I think they’re doing a great job.”
