Poor Shooting Dooms Lady Pioneers

The Alfred State College women's basketball team shot just 28.8% from the field and fell 70-62 to Mercyhurst North East in a WNYAC contest.  The Lady Pioneers fall to 10-7 (1-1 WNYAC) on the season while the Lady Saints improve to 10-2 (1-2 WNYAC).

The Alfred State College women's basketball team shot just 28.8% from the field and fell 70-62 to Mercyhurst North East in a WNYAC contest.  The Lady Pioneers fall to 10-7 (1-1 WNYAC) on the season while the Lady Saints improve to 10-2 (1-2 WNYAC).

ASC was just 23 for 80 from the field and 2 for 17 from beyond the three-point arc while MNE was 22 for 64 and 8 for 18 from three.  The Saints led 34-26 at half and led by as many as 20 points in the second half before ASC rallied and cut the lead to six in the final minute.

Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) led Alfred State with 22 points while Katelynn Bailey (West Valley) had a career high 17 points.  Shawna McNeil (Hornell) chipped in nine points.

Aquanna Diggs led Mercyhurst North East with 14 points of the bench while Lauren Henry recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.  Dierica Blackwell chipped in 13 and Cassie Esler finished with 12.

The blue & gold travel to #15 Jamestown CC on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest with the Lady Jayhawks.
