High School Visitation Program

Alfred State College’s Office of Admissions is again hosting its annual High School Visitation Program this fall. The program has been scheduled for each Thursday starting Sept. 24, and running through Nov. 12, 2009. 

This year Alfred State College is scheduled to host more than 50 high schools from the Western New York and Northern Pennsylvania areas to provide an opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to explore various career fields and academic majors offered at Alfred State. The faculty from both the Alfred campus and the School of Applied Technology campus, located in Wellsville, will provide academic overviews and discuss career options for these high school juniors and seniors.

Schools who visited Sept. 24, included Bradford (PA) Area High School; Franklinville Central School; Greece Arcadia High School; and Ripley Central High School.

Visitors Oct. 1 included Arkport Central High School; Elkland (PA) Area High School; Hammondsport Central High School; Jamestown Senior High School; and Northern Potter (PA) High School.

On Oct. 8, Bloomfield Central High School; Dundee Central High School; Ellicottville Central School; Honeoye Central High School; LeRoy Central High School; Naples Central High School; and Jasper-Troupsburg Central High School are scheduled to attend.

On Oct. 15, visitors will include Avon Central High School; Canisteo-Greenwood Central High School; Falconer Central High School; Letchworth Central High School; Oswayo Valley (Shinglehouse, PA); and Wayland-Cohocton Central High School.

On Oct. 22, Hinsdale Central High School; Fillmore Central High School; Haverling Jr.-Sr. High School (Bath); Mt. Morris Senior High School; Whitesville Central High School; Warsaw Central High School; and Perry Central High School will be in attendance.

On Oct. 29, visitors will include Cowanesque Valley (PA) High School; Cuba-Rushford Central High School; Friendship Central High School; Keshequa High School (Nunda); Prattsburgh Central High School; Wellsville Central High School; Belfast Central High School; and Attica Central High School.

And, on Nov. 5, Alfred-Almond Central School; Geneseo Central High School; Hornell Senior High School; Scio Central High School; Wayne Central High School; Cattaraugus-Little Valley Central School; and Andover Central School will close out this year’s program.

In addition to learning about academic programs, these visiting high school students will also have the opportunity to learn more about the residential aspects of college life and the more than 50 ACES—campus dining and vending operation) of Alfred State College will provide lunches for all visiting students.

This year the school counselors will receive an overview of the College’s offerings, with particular emphasis on ASC’s newest baccalaureate degrees:  Forensic Science Technology.  They will have lunch in the Central Dining Hall.

Alfred State College, a member of the technology college sector within the State University of New York (SUNY) system, offers outstanding educational opportunities for students in its nearly 52 associate degree programs, 17 baccalaureate degree programs, and three certificate programs. Numerous vocational-technical offerings stressing hands-on learning are available at the School of Applied Technology Campus located in nearby Wellsville. The College is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, and several programs are also accredited or approved by program-specific professional organizations.
