Pioneer Baseball Falls in Opener

The Alfred State College baseball team fell 4-2 to Lafleche Academy (Quebec) in their 2009 opener played at Cocoa Expo in Cocoa, FL.  The Dragons broke a 2-2 tie with single runs in the 5th and 6th inning.

The Alfred State College baseball team fell 4-2 to Lafleche Academy (Quebec) in their 2009 opener played at Cocoa Expo in Cocoa, FL.  The Dragons broke a 2-2 tie with single runs in the 5th and 6th inning.

Berto Vargas (Norman Thomas) led the Pioneers offense with a 2 for 3 day.  He connected on a double, drove home a run, and scored a run.  Jake Dale (Keshequa) was 1 for 3 with an RBI double.

Mark Ciccotti (Horseheads) took the loss on the mound.  He tossed 4 2/3 innings and allowed two earned runs.  He let up nine hits, walked three, and struck out three.  Brent Johnson (Penn Yan) allowed an unearned run in 1 1/3 innings of work without letting up a hit.

ASC continues their week long trip in Florida on Friday evening when they take on Miami (OH) Middletown at 7 p.m.
