Lady Pioneers fall in Regional Opener

The Alfred State College rallied from a 16-point second half deficit to tie the game at 48-48 with 4:30 remaining but Erie CC finished the game on a 16-5 run to advance to the Region III Division II Final Four.  The Lady Pioneers close out the season with a 10-14 mark while the Lady Kats improve to 15-12 and will take on #1 seeded Genesee CC.

The Alfred State College rallied from a 16-point second half deficit to tie the game at 48-48 with 4:30 remaining but Erie CC finished the game on a 16-5 run to advance to the Region III Division II Final Four.  The Lady Pioneers close out the season with a 10-14 mark while the Lady Kats improve to 15-12 and will take on #1 seeded Genesee CC.

ECC led 29-21 at half and increased their lead to 42-26 in the first three and half minutes of the second half.  ASC chipped away at the lead during the next twelve minutes and tied it at 48-48 on a jumper by Gina Moss (Buffalo/Hutch Tech).  After trading baskets, ECC went on a the game deciding run.

Alexis Gray led the Kats with 22 points and 20 rebounds while Magan Campbell chipped in 15 points.  Shaneya Ferguson came off the bench and was solid adding nine points and eight boards.

Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) was the lone Pioneer in double-figures finishing with 18 points and 14 rebounds.  Sherelle Brooks (Elmira Free) finished with eight points, 12 assists, and 10 boards while Moss chipped in eight points.

ASC shot just 27.2% from the field (22 for 81), 15.8% (3 for 19) from three, and 40% (6 for 15) from the foul line while ECC shot 34.8% (24 for 69) from the field, 21.1% (4 for 19) from three, and 60% (12 for 20) from the line. 

In the other Region III Division II Tournament contest, #3 Mercyhurst North East downed #6 Niagara CCC 69-56.  The Lady Saints will take on #2 Jamestown CC following the #1 Genesee CC - #5 Erie CC on Saturday at Genesee CC.  Action is set to begin at 1 p.m.
