Big Run Leads MNE past Lady Pioneers

The Mercyhurst North East women's basketball team used a 20 to 5 run that spanned the end of the first half and the start of the second to break a 27-27 tie en route to a 82-65 victory over Alfred State.  The Lady Pioneers fall to 9-12 overall and the season and 4-5 in Region III Division II play.

The Mercyhurst North East women's basketball team used a 20 to 5 run that spanned the end of the first half and the start of the second to break a 27-27 tie en route to a 82-65 victory over Alfred State.  The Lady Pioneers fall to 9-12 overall and the season and 4-5 in Region III Division II play.

Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) led the Lady Pioneers with 21 points and six rebounds while Gina Moss (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) was 6 for 10 from the field for 14 points.  Christina Loder (Brantford, ONT) finished with nine points while Sherelle Brooks (Elmira Free) had 10 assists and a team high eight boards.

Carele Smith led Mercyhurst North East with 19 points while Lauren Henry chipped in 17.  Jasmine Washington and Jennifer Kloft rounded out the Lady Saints in double figures with 12 and 11 respectively.

MNE shot 42% (29 for 69) from the field while ASC shot 41.3% (26 for 63).  The Saints made 11 more foul shots and held a 46 to 37 advantage on the boards.

Alfred State returns home for the first time in nearly two weeks on Thursday when they play Monroe CC.  Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m.
