Pioneers Finish 2nd at Swim Regionals

The Alfred State College men's swimming team finished 2nd for the third straight year at the Regionn III/Northeast Districts.  The Pioneers scored 334 points over the three day event.

The Alfred State College men's swimming team finished 2nd for the third straight year at the Regionn III/Northeast Districts.  The Pioneers scored 334 points over the three day event.

Aaron Mychack (Lansing) won the Pioneers lone event title in the 100 fly in 55.14.  He also finished 2nd in the 100 free (49.77)

Brett Kozlowski (N. Tonawanda) finished 2nd in the 400 IM (4:29.42), 2nd in the 200 breast (2:23.02), and 2nd in the 1650 free (17:51.48).

Phillip Valenta (Maine Endwell) was 2nd in the 100 back (1:01.05) and 2nd in the 200 back (2:12.19).  Cory Roberts (Marcus Whitman) earned a 2nd place finish in the 200 fly (2:18.42) and a 4th place finish in the 100 fly (1:01.72).  Kevin Minderlein (Mullica Hill, NJ) finished 4th in the 1650 free (19:27.97) while Brett Au (N. Tonawanda) was 5th in the 200 fly (2:51.09) 

In relay action the 200 medley relay team of Mychack, Valenta, Kozlowski, and Au finished 2nd (1:46.45), the 800 free relay team of Au, Josiah Halbohm (Bemus Point), Roberts, and Minderlein finished 2nd (8:32.83), and the 400 free relay team of Kozlowski, Minderlein, Valenta, and Mychack finished 2nd (3:27.03).

The men's score of 334 points trailed only Monroe CC's 583 points and was 99 points better than 3rd place SUNY Delhi. 

Heather Sears (Letchworth) was 9th in the 200 free (2:27.86) and 10th in the 100 free (1:04.37).  As the only female ASC swimmer she scored 8 points good for a 9th place team finish.

The Pioneers now shift their focus to the NJCAA National Championships which will take place March 4-7 at Erie CC in Buffalo.
