Pioneer Men Finish 8th at Half Marathon

Alfred State runners finished in 8th place out of 17 teams at the NJCAA Half Marathon National Championship this past weekend at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas.

Alfred State runners finished in 8th place out of 17 teams at the NJCAA Half Marathon National Championship this past weekend at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas. 

South Plains College (TX) took home first place, Iowa Central CC came in second, and Johnson CCC (KS) earned third place.  ASC's 76 points was better than the only other Region III competitor SUNY Delhi (79).

John Sweeney (Appleton) led the way for the Pioneers in the 13.1 mile race with a 12th place finish (1:14:50) overall.  Zak Williamson (Rocky Point) finished in 22nd place (1:16:27).  Corey Smith (Modena) rounded out the Alfred State team with a 45th place (1:20:13) finish.  The winning time of the race (1:09:47) was turned in by Iowa Central CC's Joshua Sawe.

Sweeney's 12 place finish and the team's 8th place finish are both Alfred State records in the NJCAA Half Marathon.
