Six Lady Pioneer Soccer Players Named All-WNYAC

Six members of the Alfred State College women's soccer team have earned All-WNYAC honors following a very successful 2008 campaign.  Jessie Smith (Fredonia), Brittany Hannah (Eastridge), Shelby Winchester (Maple Grove), and Meghan Lowell (Keshequa) were named to the 1st team while Audry Rath (Medina) and Chelsea Lafayette (Eastridge) were named to the 2nd team.

Six members of the Alfred State College women's soccer team have earned All-WNYAC honors following a very successful 2008 campaign.  Jessie Smith (Fredonia), Brittany Hannah (Eastridge), Shelby Winchester (Maple Grove), and Meghan Lowell (Keshequa) were named to the 1st team while Audry Rath (Medina) and Chelsea Lafayette (Eastridge) were named to the 2nd team.

Smith, a freshman forward, led the Blue and Gold with 34 points on the season, 13 goals and eight assists.  She found the back of the net in nine games and had three games in which she scored twice.

Hannah, a first team selection for the second straight season, was tied with Smith with 13 goals on season and finished with 30 points.  She scored in eight games and recorded a hat trick vs. SUNY Delhi and had two goals in two other games.  Hannah finishes her Alfred State career with 28 goals and 10 assists.

Winchester, a freshman midfield, was instrumental on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball.  She finished the year with three goals and seven assists (13 points).

Freshman Lowell emerged as the starting goalie and put together a fine season.  She made 128 saves in 1,168 minutes of play and finished the year with a 6-4-1 mark and a 1.39 goals against average.  She was in net for five shutouts on the season.

Rath quarterbacked the defense in front of Lowell.  She picked up one assist on the season but more importantly helped hold opponents to just 21 goals in 17 games (1.21 goals against average). 

Lafayette was another key component of the defensive unit.  She finished the year with a goal (versus Jefferson CC) and an assist.

Alfred State finished the season ranked as high as #6 in the NJCAA Division III poll with a 11-5-1 overall record and advanced to the Region III Division III B Finals.  In WNYAC Division III play the Lady Pioneers were undefeated and claimed the conference title.
