Welcome from Dr. Mauro

Greetings Alumni, Faculty, Staff, & Friends

Evan Enke, Assistant Professor and Department Chair Computer and Information Technology

I am proud to be part of Alfred State College and to represent our current students and the tens of thousands of our alumni all around the world. One of my greatest joys is to interact with all of our Pioneers, both alumni and current students and listen to their stories.

Those stories inspire me when we plan for the future. This fall, the college debuted a new strategic plan with goals of Attracting New Pioneers, Strengthening Academic & Student Success, and Cultivating a Caring Community. Our hard work will lead to an even stronger Alfred State.

I continue to be impressed with all of the activities on campus. Students can enjoy academic events like poetry readings and guest speakers, or they can enjoy extra-curricular activities like athletic contests and talent shows. We really do have something for everyone. I love being part of all the excitement.

Excitement is high as enrollment at Alfred State is up twenty percent and we are amid $100 million dollars of improvements to campus.

In this edition of the Alumni Magazine, you can find links to stories that highlight the remarkable things taking place here. We feature a story on the legacy of Patricia Fogarty, highlight Agriculture Professor Jessica Hutchison, and tell the story of Russell and Brenda Herman, ’81. We also share the story of a group of Wellsville graduates that have continued to build on their friendships started in the late 1970s.

I would be remiss not to ask you to keep a current student in your thoughts and prayers. Derek Correa, a first-year CNC Manufacturing and Machining major, was assaulted by a group of four outsiders when returning to campus. We have created a webpage to highlight ways to support Derek and his family during this difficult time.

I hope you enjoy reading this edition of our alumni and friends digital magazine and it encourages you to reach out to us and let us know what is going on in your life.
